Kaylee did not get main cast, didn't get a "bride". She was the only one in her Barbershop Quartet who didn't get main cast, which was a bit of a bummer, but she has a good attitude about it all. She will be in all the dancing scenes, which she really enjoys. She has another friend who is an "upper classman" who is the only one of the upper classmen to not even get a callback. This girl was excited then to at least be in the dances. Except when the list came out, she was only in one thing, one dance. She's talented, and the only one in the group to be basically left out totally. Kaylee feels bad for her, which also gives her perspective on her disappointment. She said she is disappointed, but it's not the end of the world. She's right, it's not. I'd just like to be able to fix stuff like that for her.
Today the Barbershop Quartet came over to our house to practice. They were up front working for about an hour before one of the girls left. The other two were just hanging out. They came into the kitchen, and we have lots of chips, etc., but everything Kaylee offered one of the girls would say "no thank you, I don't really like that" including coffee or tea, soft drinks, chocolate, cookies, fruit, mashed potatoes, all sorts of stuff. The girls said "Well, we can just head out", so I walked up and asked if they'd like a pizza. That got some thumbs up, so I ordered a Papa John's trifecta of pizza, breadsticks and dessert, and the day was saved. The girls hung out, ate pizza and watched a Doris Day movie. Meanwhile I'm in the back of the house watching a hip hop thing on TV. The teenage girls were watching Doris Day and the 45 year old Mom was watching hip hop. Something's wrong with this picture. ;) It was a good day, though. They had fun, and I just tried to stay out of the way and not be too uncool.
We've had a winter weather couple of days. School was cancelled Friday, which didn't stop Kaylee and her friends from having a party. I drove her home at midnight on a nice sheet of ice on the back roads. I worried about her 16-17 year old friends driving cars in that, but fortunately they lived right near there in town where it wasn't bad. I had Kaylee drive us out there on the main roads. So she got some snow, some ice, and some slush, but it wasn't terrible. The sun was still out, and it wasn't as slick as it got later when the temps dropped even more. She did well with it, and it was good experience for her. I drove home though, when it was more nasty. The news said they had over 200 wrecks in a 24 hour period from this weather. I believe it. Fortunately (?) only two fatalities, but still, that's a lot of bent metal.
We're supposed to get more snow Monday, and tomorrow (Sunday) it's supposed to drop down to zero degrees again. Yay... One day it's 57 degrees and I'm walking around in sunshine and a t-shirt, and two days later it's sub freezing again. Gah.
All in all, though, a good day...
