And then, because I'd been watching the weather, I decided to grab a quick cheeseburger and then go right back out and leave for Tennessee instead of doing it later in the afternoon. Clouds were building and the forecast was for storms. On the way there, sure enough I could see an area that was building rapidly. I was down at 4000', and was in the bottoms of the stuff, with no way to get past the tops. So I weaved around and decided that by the time I got there, got turned around, and headed home, this would not be a good plan IFR. Instead we came home low, below the clouds. It was like a pretty little minefield, with all the areas of cells dumping rain around in a pattern. It was a perfect day for the ole VFR tool though. Below the clouds, I could see where the biggest buildups were, had the ADS-B weather to help me see big picture, and I could dodge the ones that were dropping precip too, as that was clear to see on the horizon. So it was bumpy, and took plenty of twists and turns, but it was uneventful. An IFR flight wouldn't have been so relaxing.
Kaylee is still plugging away!
I had an interesting conversation with someone. He's a Mustang Pilot, T-6 pilot, not sure what else, but he asked to meet up with me in person at Oshkosh, which I did the night Kaylee and I went to the USO show in Warbirds. He later sent me a private message and said that they were always looking for good T-6 pilots, and asked if I'd considered being a back-up T-6 pilot...for Reno Air Race. He said several of them need back-up pilots, including him. He's on the board for the T-6 group at Reno, and said he'd be happy to help answer any questions, and that I should consider it. I'd have to go through Pylon Racing School, and I'd have to get the formation card, which is just funny right there. I don't know that this is something that would ever happen, or how it would ever happen. But it's a pretty cool thought. Racing a T-6 at Reno? Whoa. I can go fast and turn left. ;) The thought gives me a little tingle in the belly. Even though the odds are rather slim. The only thing I wonder about is who all is racing and how it would go. What I mean by that... I am not afraid to go fast, or low, and I'm very competitive. I told Ty at lunch, and he said "Boy, that's just made for you." lol But...I'm not willing to not come home to my family. If everyone else feels the same way and acts accordingly, great. If not, I'm in the wrong game. Well, one step at a time. First to find out what all is involved, what it takes, how it works, see if it's even...possible.
Things to chew on.
Indy International right under my nose (wing) at 4000'.
One of the pretty little rain showers.
Hazy, hot, humid, dull looking city.
