Yesterday was the First Official Day of Spring, and it arrived with some serious storms, wind, and hail. I only got one flight in, after the worst of the weather passed, and then the clouds rolled in below pattern altitude, so we ended early on that one flight, too.
Today I flew the Viking on its test flight after annual. On take-off, I pulled the gear up, and didn't get the "gear up and locked" light. A little messing with it showed the bulb was working properly, when I switched it with a gear down light, which meant it was either the contact, or the gear wasn't coming up properly. My only concern was...will it go back DOWN properly. The thought of having to land it gear up did run through my mind for a flash, because of the plane I was in, but of course it was just the contact for the bulb, the gear itself was fine. Everything else was just fine, and when I got down the guys fixed the contact issue, and it's ready to go.
After lunch I had two students from 3-7:30 pm. They were both good flights, but on that 3 pm one, we were up flying around when a front moved through. We went from 10 knot winds to wind shear and over 30 knot winds right on final there. It made for an interesting landing, and then the winds were past and it was calm again. Good old mother nature, but it was a good experience for him.
I got about 3 hours of sleep last night, which means I was exhausted all day, but now that it's night, am awake again. Good ole insomnia! :p
The Viking
Gear swing check.
Coming down final for the last landing of the day around 7:45 pm.
