Wednesday

Day Two of the Students' Captivity.  Kaylee says they are counting down and have only 178 days of school remaining.  ;)  She sent us a text today, a snapshot of her gradebook, and it shows she has one grade in it, an A+ in Algebra II.  She said "Are you proud of me?  Hahaha!"  Actually, yeah, first grade is an A+, I'll take it.  ;)

Tonight she had band practice.  Steve brought her home from school, she laid down on the couch and passed out, and I woke her up in time for band.  She wasn't happy about that, but after band practice and a Subway turkey sandwich her mood had improved.  She's really been tired these first few days of getting back into it.  Hopefully that settles in some soon.

I had an early morning flight that canceled, and as soon as that canceled Steve filled it with his guy, so I flew in the Bonanza this morning for awhile doing takeoffs and landings.  The hangar next to ours has another guy with a Bonanza, so he came over to check out John's Bo, and we chatted for awhile.  He ended up telling John lots of complimentary things about me, said that if he needed to go on a trip somewhere and there was any weather involved, he'd rather have me on board than about anybody else around, because I'm out flying all the time for real, too.  He went on and on for a bit until I had to say "thank you" and move the topic on to something else.  ;)

After a very quick lunch I went with a young fellow out to Muncie to practice tower controlled fields.  After two, I had him drop me off at Merk's Restaurant, where I had a glass of iced tea and a small slice of carrot cake in air conditioning while I watched him do his three solo tower takeoffs and landings in the 90 degree heat.  It was lovely!

Had a guy getting ready for his checkride who texted me that he may have "goofed up", because he laminated his medical.  It was getting messed up in his wallet, so he laminated it at Staples.  That cracks me up because I get it.  After all, I laminated all my paper pilot certificates when you weren't supposed to.  But the medical?  I don't think that's legal.  He's going on to Purdue's flight program after his private, and they want him to have a First Class medical, so tomorrow I'm signing him off on a solo cross country to go to an airport at which an examiner resides who will do his First Class Medical, and he'll have a shiny new paper medical for his checkride, not laminated, and a 1st Class for Purdue, and a solo cross country, in one swoop.  Win/win/win.  ;)

We have a couple of ladies here doing some painting for us in Kaylee's room and bathroom, and the dining room.  Touching up some areas, changing the border and color in the bathroom, etc.  It'll be nice to have it refreshed a bit for the first time in ages.

Other than that, we're just hot, sweaty, and working.  I have folks tomorrow from 8 a.m. to about 6 pm, and it's only supposed to be 90 degrees tomorrow with 75% humidity at 9 a.m.   Yay, summer, thanks for that...
