Steve's procedure went fine. I wanted to let the poor man tell his own story for once, so I didn't write how it went yesterday. :D But basically for those of you not around here or whom he hasn't spoken to, the prep part of it, that everyone says is so bad, was absolutely no problem for him. I joked that he's had Friday nights after Mexican food worse than that. Let's just say his system is "expert level" at functioning properly already. The stuff he had to drink was flavorless mixed with Gatorade, so no bad taste. So the prep was totally painless. The procedure, of course, he doesn't even remember, so that was no big deal either. The hard part? The lady didn't get the IV in right away, and he's borderline on needles anyway, and when she didn't successfully get in, he broke out in a big sweat. Pilots know what usually follows that. ;) She stopped, he took a minute to gather himself, and then I finally got there before she went for attempt #2, so I talked to him to distract him while she went for it. I ran out of stuff to say because she was taking forever to do it, but I saw her finally starting to go and I panicked so I made something up, which confused and distracted him enough. Later he asked me about what I'd said, and I said "Oh, no, I was lying about that. I just couldn't think of anything to say right that second so I made that up." Hey, it worked well enough. Afterwards we were in the recovery room for 30-40 minutes while he thoroughly woke up, and then we were out of there. The directions said stick with a liquid or gentle diet until your system caught up. So we went through McDonald's and he got pancakes, sausage, eggs, biscuit, and hash brown. Which his system handled just fine. Rule breakers, are we. ;)
I've been working my way back down to where I belong on the scale/physically. It's annoying to lose the same weight you already lost once, but at least it's going in the right direction, and didn't get too far out of whack. So I've been upping the walking. There are at least two shows per week that Steve doesn't want to watch that I do, so I use that time to catch up on the shows, which take 45-60 minutes of walking, and today I upped the speed on the treadmill and was able to sustain that, so that's good, I suppose.
Kaylee's school driver's ed teacher hasn't gotten back to us, and she's a month into 15 now, and she could have had her permit, so Steve's going to reach out to him again, and I looked into the online driver's ed courses to see which were approved as best I could. Her summer...she is taking summer Phys Ed because it's supposedly less traumatic than school year PE, and school's driver's ed is over the summer too. She has it planned out. Driver's Ed (DE) meets mornings for "ground school", breaks, then meets in the afternoon for driving school. PE meets in the mornings. So she wants to do the online course to cover the "ground school" now, then take PE in the mornings and DE in the afternoons and knock both out of the way. Frankly, if it works, I think it's pretty smart of her. Both are right after school lets out, for however many weeks they run. It'll affect some summer stuff, trips, her plans to be a counselor at camp, etc., but we're still trying to iron out all the details.
We're doing some home...changes. I wouldn't call them renovations per se. Most of my friends (or their wives) redo various rooms of their home's decorations, furniture, etc. every few years. I've never been that way, for good or bad. Most of what we have in the house now, we've had for the 20 years we've been married (and some longer). Some of that I don't mind--the microwave we were just joking about that my parents gave me when I was 18 is still totally going strong! :D Recently we had to replace our dishwasher. A friend gave us a new dryer as they were replacing theirs anyway and ours was taking twice as long to dry. Other than that... Well, we're in the same water bed we were in when we got married. That's about to change, we're going to get a new mattress, ditch the water bed part of it. Our sinks and tubs could use refinished or however you fix marble sinks and porcelain tubs but not sure on that one yet. We'll probably do some paint in a few places, and are looking at the changing area back by our bedroom and Kaylee's room for carpeting. The biggest problem is our leather couch, which has held up for SO long, and which we really like, but would cost more to fix than it would to buy new and different couches. But neither of us is sure what to replace it with or if we'll like the replacements as much as we love that couch. So we procrastinate. But it's in bad shape. But these things, they've all been quality purchases that have lasted for two decades, and that's nothing to sneeze at. Our washing machine is 25 years old and still works fine. These days the washing machines have an expected life of 7-14 years. I hate to spend money on something when what you've got is simple, mechanical, and works, just to replace it with something that is lesser quality, totally digital, expensive, and won't work for half the lifespan of what you had before. It also doesn't help if everything is the same age and could use replacement all at once. ;)
Steve has been going through and getting rid of some things around the house, and was asking me about this or that, clothing back in the other closet, etc. Some of the clothes back there included the lavender dress I wore when I was Kaylee's age to a 9th grade banquet. My first and second "prom" dresses, the old skirts and suit jackets I used to wear as a secretary, my old flight jackets, etc. I/We kept the jackets, threw away the lavender dress as it had stains, and gave away the rest of the clothes to an urban outreach center to do with as they saw fit. Also back in the back was a white shirt with blue polka dots that I'd worn at an interview, the day I got a speeding ticket (trying to get to the interview), a ticket which, once I'd moved and never gotten notification of it, ended up resulting in me getting my driver's license suspended, which I had no idea happened until I went to the BMV to renew my license and they informed me it was suspended. This I have to still report on every flight medical exam every year, by the way. That's the same shirt I wore on the same day, when I was in an accident, and EMT's, after tie-wrapping my wrists and carrying me out of a field on a board, to an ambulance, against my loud verbal protests, took me in and did full body X-rays on me to make sure nothing was broken. (It wasn't). The shirt had blood stains on it from my face, so you're wondering, why didn't I throw that thing away? I knew some people could get blood out of material, and that was a fancy shirt for me, and I couldn't afford to replace it, and I thought I could get it taken care of eventually. I wore it under a suit jacket with the marks hidden and nobody could tell. Today I found it in the back of the closet, with the rest of the clothes from that time frame, and it's now in the trash can with a faded, stained dress from almost 30 years ago now. Amazing. It only takes me 20-30 years to decide to get rid of something, I guess. Call it a tendency of never wasting anything, bred in from past generations. ;)
Kaylee's school is still dealing with the levels of lead in the water issue. Today they sent home forms, permissions slips for parents to sign and give back to allow them to run a blood test on the kid to determine if the kid has lead poisoning. Guess who isn't going to do that? Now if a bunch of kids start popping high levels, then maybe, depending on what they'd have to do about it anyway, but for now? No. I am not that concerned about the one room with the high levels of lead, nor am I going to make my extremely needle-phobic daughter have a blood test at school, particularly without me there. So...we'll wait.
Kaylee was trying on a couple of my dresses--and fit in my pretty little backless black dress in which she will never be leaving the house. She told me to try on my peach fru-fru dress, and me, knowing my size back then, thought, no way. But I tried it on, and I actually got it on and zipped 2/3rds of the way. I came out of the room and sashayed into the kitchen, and Kaylee said "Whoa, Mom!" Then she told me that I looked very pretty. I laughed. I said "So, there's no reason for which you would need this dress, right?" And she came right back with "Oh. No. No way, man!" Hahaha. She took a picture of me as I came into the kitchen, too. It's oh so attractive. (not) I'll show you-maybe. I tried on the red dress next, and almost had to be cut out of it. That wasn't good. No more high school dresses for me. ;)
This was on the door in the recovery room. It cracked me up.
You're welcome. How very flattering in every way! :D #shortwaistedgirlproblems
(p.s. Don't even think of doing anything public with this photo or you will be ex-friend/family and in some form of physical pain yet to be determined. I may be wearing a peach lacy floor length prom dress right now, but I suggest you take me seriously anyway. ;))
