Breezy Day

Kaylee and Alonna stayed up past 2 a.m. watching Christmas movies up front, which I only know because I stayed up until 2 a.m. watching shows in the back and they were still up when I went to bed.  :)  Kaylee didn't have school, I didn't have flight students, and we all slept in, too!

This afternoon Steve and I took Kaylee to school where we had Parent/Teacher Conferences.  We got there at 2:35.  Our time slot was 2:45.  By 3:15 we still were standing there outside the teacher door, so the teacher told us to go to the Math Teacher who should have time for us.  So we stood outside the Math teacher's door for another 20 minutes as she too was busy.  Finally we got in, and had our conference.  It was student-led, so Kaylee had a paper to go over about what she was learning in each class, an evaluation on how she is doing in various areas in her own opinion, etc.  She did a pretty good job on self-evaluating, even commenting on what she was doing better this year vs last year.  The one that was funny was a question of "On a scale from one to four with one being the worst and four being the best, how well do you read and follow directions?"  She originally put a '3'.  And then she got done with that exercise and realize the directions had said to write the numbers to the left of the questions, and she had written the numbers to the right of the questions.  She decided she'd better change that 3 to a 2 perhaps, since she'd mis-read and not properly followed the directions to that question about how well she read and followed directions.  ;)  The teacher said she had a good solid group of friends, was always happy and cheerful in school, was getting good grades and obviously had two caring parents, and that she was doing great.  It was a shock, I say, a shock.  ;)

Then this evening Alonna and I dropped Kaylee off at a school friend's house where a group of girls were having a little party.  They dressed up, played a few games, ate a bunch of junk food, and had fun.  It was supposed to last for four hours, but I only had Kaylee stay for 2.5 hours so she would have time to spend at home with her cousin too.

While Kaylee was at her party, Alonna and I went out to the airport, sat in the airplane, and went over everything in there.  What each instrument was, how it worked, what ran it, what would happen if it quit working, how to read it, what it all did, etc.  I didn't think it would take that long, but it took a good 2 hours to cover it all after all.  There's just a ton of information there.  You know, that's not a typical flight lesson, but it probably should be.  Usually they pick it up as we go, we explain things as we tell them to hold this or that, but sitting on the ground for two hours first is probably a better way to go about it.  I might have to adapt that a bit more than I have been.

Before we left, we went over to the main hangars for a bathroom, to look at the Aerostar, and the T-6.  Having done some flying, now both those airplanes made more sense, the instruments were familiar, etc.  Best of all, Nathan's helmet was the one in the T-6 still, and it fit Alonna's head!  She said she got her dad's big head.  :D

We left the airport and went to pick Kaylee up from the party, then came on home.  The girls made some coffee frappachinos (sp) homemade, which were really tasty by the way, we had some junk food from the party that Kaylee brought home, and then they headed up front to watch some movies while we came back here to watch our shows and do a little work.   A good day was had by all.  :)
