Sorry, no Kaylee stories today, Mom. I was busy all day doing that aviation thing. But she is doing just fine, happy, doing pretty well in school, and sixth grade is so far uneventful, which is better than a lot of sixth grade experiences go. ;)
It was a day of varied instruction, anyway. First flight in the morning was a pilot working on his tailwheel endorsement in the Champ at Glenndale. Second flight was a pilot working on his Instrument rating out of Kokomo in the RG, doing GPS approaches and holds. Third flight was a student pilot in a 172, and we did a night cross-country, which means I got back around 11:20 pm or so. So, plenty of variety of things to do today. In between flight two and three I hit two banks, the post office and a store where I returned some clothes Kaylee had picked out and exchanged them for others. I ate dinner tonight at 11, hitting Taco Bell on my way home. I was kept hopping today, anyway...
I had a voicemail tonight asking if I'd be available to fly formation the weekend of the 22nd, and that if so they'll try to see about finishing up some requirements towards a FAST card checkride. Ironically that's the one weekend that's non-negotiable-not-available, as our BBQ Bash means both I and the T-6 will be otherwise engaged, all weekend long. But at least there's light at the end of the tunnel, and as best I can tell it's not a train. ;) That also reminds me-the last time we flew, we were doing 60 degree bank turns, going from turning one way right into turning the other way, and back, etc. The instructor is very good about being able to keep his eye on what everybody is doing, issue instructions over the radio if need be, and fly his own airplane smoothly too. So he got on the radio and suggested that instead of me trying to stay exactly in position when I was on the outside of a turn, and "climb the hill", I should stay level, wait, and then when I had a little more energy, pull up into position, to keep from getting "sucked", or lagging behind. The first time I didn't wait long enough, but the second time worked out beautifully, and he got back on the radio and said "That's how it's done, Grasshoppa." I haven't been called "Grasshopper" in a long time--made me laugh.
Well, it's late, and I have a busy week, so I guess I'll get to it...
