Once the clouds and low visibility burned off, it was a nice day, and spent mostly flying. This morning was a little single engine action in the Cheyenne, including a single engine ILS. They really should have been able to make and sell more of those airplanes. The Cheyenne really does kick butt performance-wise in so many ways. It's a great airplane and it's a shame it didn't "take off" and become as popular as it should have been.
After lunch I took the Citabria with a student down to Sheridan to practice takeoffs and landings for about two hours. Didn't get home until about 4:30, and I was already worn out. We needed to get the Poker Run boxes done tonight, which means printing off 48 copies of the decorative paper, taping them to all four sides of the twelve boxes, taping flags and such on them, stuffing 440 cards into 440 envelopes, and dividing them up amongst 11 of the boxes. I had to reprint the 48 copies after Steve pointed out I was missing two of our airports. So I ripped off what we'd already taped up, fixed the form, and reprinted it. I was using Post Office boxes, which I picked up the other day, only to find out that I'd grabbed the wrong size, and these were not going to work. So I hopped back in my car and drove to the post office, returned the wrong size, and found there was only one of the right size left, and I needed 9 more. Searched around and found some more stuffed in the wrong spot. Thankyouverymuch. I walked out, got in the Jeep, and got about a mile down the road when I realized I didn't have my phone. I'd set it down in the Post Office. I turn around, get back to the post office, and my phone is gone, and the post office is closed. I'm standing there staring at the floor, for once out of ideas and energy at the same time, trying to figure out how I'm going to explain losing my phone today too, and a woman comes out of the locked door in the back. I rather helplessly said "Nobody turned in a phone in the last five minutes, did they?" thinking it was a moot point as I'd seen two young teen guys walking in as I was walking out before, and that was it. She said "A red phone? I just grabbed that and put it in the back." Oh, thank the Lord. I drove back home again, put together all the boxes, child-labored Kaylee into helping me until 10 pm when it was time for her to go to bed, then Steve and I finished stuffing the cards, licking the envelopes, dividing it all up, and then he's moved on to billing while I'm sitting here drinking something with a chocolate kick. I was supposed to leave at about 6 a.m. on a flight to North Carolina in IFR weather with rain and various thunderstorms in somebody else's airplane, but that was canceled tonight. That works for me, this time. I'm...beat.
Mom & Ernie celebrated an anniversary on the 6th, and today is my Mom's birthday. She's not 60 yet! :) Happy Birthday, Mom. Love you!
