Today Kaylee turned 11 years old, officially. :) She's growing into a tall, confident young lady, a lot of fun to talk to and get to know.
I'd ordered 30 cupcakes for her to take to school today. Blue and green yin/yang icing on white cupcakes. She couldn't very easily carry them on the bus, so I drove them to school for her just before lunch. On the way to the bus today, she told Steve that she wanted to give her principal a cupcake for her birthday, but that the secretary always intercepted kids and took stuff to the principal instead of letting the kids do it themselves, and Kaylee said "I want to look him in the eye and give him the cupcake so he knows me and knows it's from me, personally." So Steve told her to ask the secretary to be able to give it to him in person, and if she balked, to ask when she could come back when it would be convenient to meet with him in person, make an appointment if she had to. We both certainly would like to encourage her in that. And that's what she did. The secretary offered to take it to the principal, Kaylee politely asked to please be able to give it to him and the Vice-Principal both in person, they both agreed, and she walked in and handed them their cupcakes with a little chit chat. It does a parent's heart good. :) She also handed out cupcakes to all the 5th grade teachers in all four classrooms, and didn't have time to eat her own cupcake. But she had a great day at school, being the Birthday Girl.
I picked her up from the bus stop today, and took her right to the mall where she had a Claire's Boutique and a Books-A-Million gift card to spend. She was quite excited about both. She got a new pair of boots at Claire's for $8, which she loves, and a panda bear wallet to replace her old princess wallet. At Books-A-Million she picked out a Warrior book and went for a new Webkinz too, which she is currently playing with on line. We stopped and had a hot chocolate (her) and mocha (me) and sat and just talked for awhile before heading home. She has more gift cards to go play with, and she can't wait to get to those, too. Music, books, food and clothes. Every 11-year-old girl's dream--or at least my girl's! :)
When we got back from the mall, Steve was here waiting, with candles lit, cake on the table, balloons up, music and flowers all set for her. "Surprise!" We sang happy birthday, ate some cake, and I fixed her still-favorite meal, Kraft Mac & Cheese. ;)
I think she had a very good 11th birthday. Whew!

I cannot believe Kaylee is 11!!!
Sounds like she had a great day and is becoming more and more like her mama... and that's a great thing!
