Saw a statistic today that 30% of cancers are known to be directly linked to smoking. Not a shock, right? The next statistic said that 30% of cancers are known to be directly linked to being overweight. I remember kidney and uterine as two. In other words, being overweight is just as deadly as far as getting cancer as smoking, just different cancers. Now THAT I did not know. And not just obese, although the stats get worse the more overweight you get, but just "over weight". If you just stay steady at a weight, you're in better shape than if you lose weight than gain it back, or steadily gain weight. Fat cells secrete estrogen which feeds cancer cells, and the more fat cells you have, and the more you are gaining, the more estrogen you produce, and the more your immune system has to fight off the irregular cells, until it gets overwhelmed, and you get cancer. I'll bet if you asked people the risks of being overweight, they'd say, like me, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, stroke, heart attack. Now you can add cancer to that list...another statistic I remember is that if your waist is over 35", you have a 57% increase in risk in a specific cancer. Kaylee was home watching the show with me, and she made us measure. She's at 25" and I'm at 36". She said "Don't worry Mom, you're just one inch off, that can't matter." She's sweet...
At school the other day, Kaylee was climbing around on the metal dome with triangles in it, about 4' off the ground, and she fell, smashing into the metal bars with her shins and knee. She said she was yelling and screaming at first and folks pretty much ignored her, but then she refused to go to the school nurse because she already knew what was wrong and didn't want anybody poking at it because it already hurt enough. So she just dealt with it herself from there. Her knee swelled up, though it's back down now, and she does have three large and colorful bruises on her. I cringe a little, because I know how bad that hurts on the bones there.
I could be going on a flight to Florida tomorrow, enjoying lunch in the sun, but alas, I have stuff to do here. Steve will go soak up some of the sun for me. Besides, he deserves a day off. :) One of the things I am doing tomorrow is shopping. The day before Thanksgiving. For food. I shall have to be prepared for large crowds of people at the stores, but I'll do my best. We're staying here and having Thanksgiving at our home, with Richard & Ann, who are still up here in Kokomo with us this year. Everything is coming up a little too fast, but I look forward to a couple days off too. :)
The C-340 passed inspection with flying colors, so to speak, so that should be moving forward pretty quickly, once we get the plane back here after the holiday.
Speaking of holiday. I can NOT stand the crazy Target lady Christmas commercials, and they are playing soooooo much. And I can't stand that my local radio station is playing Christmas carols almost non-stop, already, and it's not even Thanksgiving yet. Reason #2 to use my iPod more. ;) But really, why can't they wait for Halloween and Thanksgiving to pass before shoving Christmas at everybody? Bah Humbug...
