The Day Before

Steve and Nathan winged off to Florida today, eating at Conchy Joe's. I shall try not to think about Conchy Joe's, lest I experience Jealousy, which is an unattractive characteristic in a person. ;)

I got my first Christmas card today. You know, the day before Thanksgiving. What is WRONG with you people?? ;)

I was supposed to go on a cross-country with a student today, but the weather, which was supposed to clear off by 9 a.m., didn't. So once I got up in the morning, I went food shopping. I ran home to unload that, ran a few errands, then went out to Kokomo Airport for a pre-Thanksgiving party hosted by Bob H., the head of the airport board of directors. When we got there, there were only about 10 of us, but by the time I left, there were cars all over the place and it was standing room only in the hangar. I saw some old familiar faces, plenty of strangers, and some political folks (some city politicians were there too.) I don't know how many people ended up showing up. 50? Plenty. We had rib tips and BBQ and all sorts of good stuff. It wasn't Conchy Joe's, but it was good. ;) As I was leaving, I thanked Bob for the hospitality, and he thanked me for coming and told me I was the only woman who had ever been invited to one of those events. He said "Look around! You're the only woman here, only one that's ever been here for this event." I said that I was honored, and laughed, because I honestly do not notice that any more most of the time. It was a nice lunch, a nice way to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday. :)

At this point I still didn't know if I would be flying or not, so I decided to leave the airport and finish my errand. The meat market, back to the store for a few things, out to Meijer which had what Kroger didn't, etc. I got it all together, got home, and realized we were out of vinegar (which we need for our dishwasher) and that I'd need broth for the stuffing, so I went BACK to the store for the 3rd time that day. Richard got Kaylee for me, so I ran around and got all the stuff we should need, and it took awhile to unload all that stuff and get it put away. I am highly looking forward to the eating coming up soon here. ;)

The crowd at the grocery store wasn't bad in the morning, but by 5 p.m. tonight it was packed out and people were cranky. They were fine this morning, but I guess by evening you're looking at desperation. One poor elderly man stopped me in the aisle and said his wife sent him out for creamed corn and he couldn't find it, so I helped him get that. A few aisles over a woman stopped me and said she hadn't cooked a turkey in years and she didn't remember how to cook it and was asking me if she should put broth or something over it, and I felt bad when I told her that she probably picked the one woman in the entire packed-out grocery store who didn't know how to answer her question without reading the directions, if any existed, posted on the turkey. I told her MY broth was for stuffing and I think you just bake the turkey, no broth, but that I didn't know for sure. I said "please, ask another person, I'm sure they will be able to help you better", but how much nerve does it take to ask a stranger how to cook a turkey in the first place? Doing it twice would stink. ;)

This evening Kaylee and I played "Rock Band" for about an hour, finishing up right when Steve walked in the door from Florida. I still kicked her butt, of course, but she played the drums and ended up with the 80-90% range on medium, which is pretty good. I am at a bit of an impasse. I score in the high 90s (even 100%) on medium, but I haven't taken the time to figure out how to get my fingering right to get that darned 5th note down there on "Hard". I end up with 60-70% on hard because I don't get my fingers in the right position, and I don't do it often enough nor care badly enough to work at it. I'm fast enough, just need to get the fingers organized. If I care. Scoring high 90s in medium seems to be just fine for me for now. lol

Kaylee has a fair amount of homework, so I told her just to do one thing tonight. She picked a Soduko puzzle, which she wiped out in 5 minutes. She's better at those than I am. :) Then she said "You said ONE thing, and I did it. Good enough?" Yep, good enough. More homework...Friday. Not tomorrow. She needs things to be thankful for too. ;) She did her laundry, I did the dishes, and we still have some things to do, but it was productive.

Happy Day Before. It's still a good day to be thankful. :)
