An hour of checkride prep, lunch, then out to Kokomo to fly over to Piedmont, Missouri again. I had some pretty stiff headwinds, and only made about 105-115 knots groundspeed all the way out, making it almost a 3 hour flight. It's an interesting little airport, surrounded by hills and woods, short-ish and narrow-ish, so you drop in over a hill to land, and when you're taking off, you'd better know what's in front of you as the terrain rises to meet you about as fast as you can climb. I did a few s-turns on take off because I can't see over my nose in that kind of climb, and I didn't want to be...mistaken...on what was out there. ;) My trip home was a whole lot faster-I was getting 145-157 knots groundspeed this time. I was alone, so I turned up the music, scooted my seat back a little, stretched out and relaxed. Had a little weather to go around, but not bad. It was supposed to be just rain, and I was just cutting through the edge of it--I was pretty much in the clear. And then I saw a bolt of lightning off to the north of me, and promptly scooted a little farther away. No need to be too close to that.
Kaylee had her first day of Basketball Camp after school today, and she loved it. I'm not sure who she is sometimes! Basketball?? Well, okay. :) She really did have fun fun with it, it's good exercise, learning a skill, and she's meeting a few new people too. So all in all, Kaylee's pleased with her new venture. It only lasts for five days after school, ending Friday, and then she wants to take a tennis camp after that. Will do. It's always good to have at least minimal knowledge of a variety of different topics, sports, subjects, etc.
On a more serious note, a friend send me a link to this article about parenting a child with a terminal diagnosis. It's a different disorder than SMA, but what she says is spot on, and something people probably don't think about...
