I hope the boys are having fun out there in the freezing temps. :D
I took Kaylee down to Westfield for a birthday dinner with Gina, Chuck, Judy, Brad, Allie, Maggie and Hannah, after which Kaylee went with Maggie to a comedy place and then home for a sleepover. So, Kaylee's having a good time, I'm sure. :)
After I left Westfield, I had some time to myself. Kaylee and Steve are both gone overnight, so I decided to do something I haven't done in years. I went to the movies. And I watched "Footloose". Talk about a blast from the past. They made the remake different enough from the original to make it the same movie with the same theme and some of the same lines, but it went in a slightly different order, had different music (mostly), and a different feel. The thing is, the original Footloose had a lot of things in it that rang true of a small country Church-based town and highschool ran by the local pastor. Trust me, I'm familiar. :) This one...it was too "citified" and "updated". For one thing, the kids in this high school? If they were small town country kids, I'm the tooth fairy. Just because they occasionally wore flannel in the movie, it didn't make them look any less like New York City models. In their 20s. And you don't learn to dance like that in a town like that. They basically had all these kids as Juliard dance kings and queens. The main scene where Ren loses it and dances alone in the gin mill to blow off steam? They had him do krumping. I suppose that was their way of modernizing the movie, and it IS "angry" dancing which is appropriate for his mood I suppose, but krumping?? Krumping does not belong in Footloose, I'm thinking. Ariel IS a model. The original Ariel was a pretty, scrawny girl, who looked exactly like a preacher's daughter in the country while still being beautiful. This one looks like the supermodel she is. A lovely young lady indeed, but no country highschooler. :) But still, I liked the movie anyway. Maybe because it was a blast from the past, even if different. When I got up to leave, I turned around and a woman behind me said to a group of ladies she was with, "I bet we are the only 40 year olds in here!" I laughed and said "No, I'm here from that generation too." There were mostly young kids in there, but a few of us middle aged chicks were there to represent the 80s. :)
I caught up on shows I missed last night (gotta love the internet), and I have nothing to do tomorrow but relax and wait for the family to get back.
Works for me!
