Mother's Day Our Way

First, Happy Birthday to my Mom, whose birthday falls on Mother's Day this year. So a Happy Mother's Day too! And to Ann, my other mother. I couldn't ask for better role models. :)

I spent my Mother's Day our way. I slept in this morning, followed up by homemade chocolate chip pancakes. Kaylee gave me the gift she'd made for me--an angel bookmark or necklace depending on how you want to use it, and a butterfly, wrapped in a bag that she'd written "God made you perfect. God made you mine. God made you uniquely you. Happy Mother's Day--you're the best!" What a sweetie...

Steve and Kaylee got my motorcycle started up and ready for Spring, set my helmet on the seat and came and got me to shoo me off. It was a little breezy today, but nice
and warm and sunny, and once I made it out of our gravel driveway in one piece, I was good to go. :) I wandered around town, around the back roads, and ended up at Kokomo Airport, where I pulled out the T-6 and took it up for about 45 minutes or so. I listened to music in the plane and on the motorcycle, flew over the house and saw Kaylee and Steve waving at me as they cleaned up the Corvette, flew over Glenndale and saw a taildragger taking off into the nice day, flew over Indian Hills and saw it buttoned up tight as Jim and crew recovers from the weekend, and did some
crosswind takeoffs and landings at Kokomo to make sure I was current. Landing, putting away the plane, getting on the motorcycle and driving home was a nice end to a nice day.

Kaylee asked if she could go on the motorcycle with me, and I said no, not yet, that I wasn't proficient enough on it to trust myself taking her, that it had been too long since I'd flown it. Steve bursts in with "That's the problem RIGHT there--you're not supposed to FLY motorcycles! Busted!" :) I also said I don't have a helmet for her, which is when I learned that my helmet actually fits her. Well of course it does! I can wear her bike helmet, why couldn't she fit into my T-6 or motorcycle helmets! That just means that if she goes, she'll need to go with Steve so they can both have a fitting helmet anyway. :) They did go today, for a ride down in the park together, and Kaylee loved it...

Steve took the Kaylee & Laura Annual Flowering Tree Photo this afternoon, too, and it seems fitting that it was on Mother's Day this year...

A good day...
