Hot Wings

It was another scorcher today. I had a business flight this morning, ended up being 3.1 hours in the air. We went to Joliet, Illinois, were just there for a little over an hour, then headed over to Chicago and stayed there for about three hours. There's a restaurant on field there called the "Kitty Hawk Diner", with a full view of the runways and ramp, and while I waited, I read a book, ate an excellent Cajun-seasoned tuna steak sandwich, and watched airplanes go by. At a table nearby sat a family of five. A mom, her sister, two little boys and a little girl. Every time an airplane would come up on the ramp or takeoff down the runway, that whole family would jump up from the table, the kids would press their faces and hands against the window, the two ladies would take pictures with their cell phones, and the kids would chatter excitedly about the type or look or sound of the airplane. They were entranced, and their enthusiasm made me smile.

This evening Kaylee and I went shopping. She has outgrown a lot of her clothes, and just before school starts is a good time to hit some sales, so away we went, for two hours. Kaylee tried on clothes until even SHE was sick of trying on clothes. Hehehe. She ended up with quite a few things, which is good because she was wearing the same three shirts over and over, and now she has some comfortable and nice-looking choices. The biggest shock though, was jeans. Up to now, that girl will not wear jeans, hates jeans. Today she decided she wanted jeans, and she tried on a bunch of them until she found two pair that she liked. She also just in the last month has decided she liked hamburgers...something she would never touch up till now. The other day she ordered tomato soup and pasta with marinara sauce, two more things she'd not eat. I raised an eyebrow...I guess she's growing up and changing, and she's hard to keep up with now!

As we were trying to get to the store, we kept running into construction, and I couldn't find a good way in. I was getting a little frustrated after my next trip around the block, when I saw a green VW bug. I said "Green one!" to Kaylee, and she said "Aww!", then "Well, at least you still have your sense of humor." Yes, indeed. ;)
