This morning Kaylee got dressed in her new jeans and a new leopard top and skipped into 4th Grade. When I came to pick her up for the day, she was still skipping and smiling. They hadn't done much of anything this first half day except settle in, get their desks in order, meet each other (two new kids this year and a new teacher), and reconnect, but she had fun.
One of the girls in her class who knew her last year looked her up and down and in a snarky voice said "What's with the jeans?"
Did she feel weird about wearing jeans for one of the first times ever? Did she look for approval and ask if she looked okay? Did she get defensive or angry? Did she care in the least? Nope. Kaylee shrugged and replied simply "I like them now" and moved on. Subject closed, next topic.
I love her confidence. :)
