Up Up and Away

So this morning we were supposed to get up around 7 a.m. We actually made it up closer to 8 a.m., but it's supposed to be a vacation, so hey! Last night we packed our bags, and this morning we threw everything into the Suburban, loaded up the Baron, and headed to Kentucky. I'd filed for 6000' for winds, but right around 2,500' I knew my head wasn't going to make it to 6000', so we requested 4000', which was juuuust about where I could do it. Any worse and I'd have had to cancel IFR and run down even lower. Fortunately it worked out though. The antibiotics really have moved towards kicking this thing, fast, but Thursday was the first day I'd even been off the couch, I'm still on three different meds (Steve was up front with me in the plane, legal Pilot in Command), and mornings and evenings are still a little rough. I waited an extra day to heal up prior to coming on down, and that day made a pretty good difference.

Last year we didn't make it pretty much anywhere to visit anybody, so this year we're trying to make up for it a little bit. This weekend we're on the houseboat at Kentucky Lake with Grandma & Grandpa Shaffer. Next weekend we're heading out to the Johnson family reunion in Kansas. Busy, but we didn't make it to Kansas last year either, and family won't be around forever...

Kaylee enjoys the boat, and when we got down here we didn't have long to wait before she broke out her new fishing pole for an unsuccessful bout of fishing off the dock followed by a trek up to the dock for lemon custard (ice cream). I thought it was going to be miserable hot, but really, so far it's been pretty pleasant. We went into town to the Catholic church fried chicken fundraiser where we had some of the best food we've had in awhile. They cut their own chicken and fried it to perfection so that the breasts were just solid chunks of meat, no bones. All the ladies brought in their homemade desserts, and we stuffed ourselves silly. Even Kaylee couldn't hardly sit after that one. :)

Kaylee did a craft with her grandma, texted me back and forth on Steve's phone for awhile just to be silly, then we watched the sun set off the back of the boat and just relaxed...
