Last night we stayed up until almost 2 a.m. doing some work-related, well, work. Today was a few last-minute projects around the house, plus a few errands I had to run including one more big busy store run on Christmas Eve. Shelves were picked clean, that's for sure, but I found sort of what I needed...good enough for now anyway. It was half sleeting half raining today, but the roads stayed clear and people still seemed to be in good spirits.
Kaylee and I made up sugar cookie dough from scratch and put it in the fridge to wait for tonight-it's the first time I've ever refrigerated the dough like it always says you're supposed to. The end product is fluffy and tastes pretty good, but I can't remember previous years well enough to know if refrigeration actually does any good or not. Anyway, when Mom & Ernie arrived we went over to Nathan's for a Christmas Eve hang-out dinner for awhile, and Kaylee and the kids swapped a few gifts, we all ate too much, and we got a more detailed tour of some of the neat artifacts around the house. :)
Then tonight we had to make and decorate Christmas cookies for Santa, of course. So out came the chilled (did I mention made from scratch) dough, the decorations, the cookie cutters, the baking sheets, the frosting and the flour, and the three of us ladies went to town. The final taste got the stamp of approval from all in the house, Santa has a plate of cookies waiting for him, the kitchen is clean again, and everyone is in bed except for me.
A few photos from today...and here is Deenie the Elf by the plate of cookies for Santa. :) Merry Christmas everybody!
