Two years ago, it was a total surprise to me when I didn't feel well after going on a bunch of the spinny rides, which had never bothered me before. Last year I was more prepared for it, but still struggled with it, and pushed myself too hard at the end. This year, I was pleasantly surprised that we hit every ride she wanted to hit, most of them twice, and I had no problem. My tolerance is obviously up. Not far enough, but up. What's strange is that I can go up and do a dozen rolls or loops or whatever, and I felt fine. Nathan flew me around every which way but right side up for a long time not that long ago, and I felt fine. I wasn't the one doing the flying there, so you'd think that would get to me if anything would. Nope. But a few of these spinny circus/fair rides, and I'd been turning green. Until this year.
We went for several hours, doing one ride after the other. Kaylee had a blast. She loved a "Haunted House" ride, where you sit in a cart and it bangs around in pitch black, running into stuff, stringy things hanging down into your face, loud noises out of nowhere, banging and pop up ghosts and skeletons and so forth. She hung onto my arm for dear life, but she loved it and made me go again. Most of the rides she hit more than once, in fact. She loved the "Freak Out", which goes very high and shoots you around. The swings, the scrambler, all sorts of them. She wouldn't go on the one that goes upside down called "The Screamer", because it was way higher than the ride last year that hung you upside down on which she and every other kid on there freaked out over. She likes the Ferris Wheel, though this year's wheel is WAY smaller than the previous years' wheel. They had a huge one before. You know, I'm glad I don't spend a lot of time looking at all the bolts and hoping the guy below put it together properly. But that is a very fuddy duddy way to live, so I ignore the fact that should said bolt come out, we would plunge...never mind. See, I ignore that.
We had a fun day, took a break for cold drinks, and hit more rides. The last ride of the day was "The Spider", also known as "The Octopus" at other fairs or parks. It's the ride where your individual seat spins around, while the whole ride spins to the left, while the arms that your seat is on shoot up and down. It was the last ride of the day because it was the ride that finally broke my stomach. And how. No more spiders or octopi for Laura. Ever.
We finally made it home like around 7 p.m. or so I think, I threw in a load of laundry, Kaylee went to a computer game, and it's already 10 p.m. and the whole day has flown by!
I've got Pictures from the Fair up on Kaylee's site, of course. :)
