Stephanie and I were talking about our local airport crew today. I had told her that while we had our share of characters, we were surrounded by good, honest, hard-working, solid people. She could tell on her own though. :) What you see is what you get. Equally as important, when you need help, they're there, no matter what. They will be out there physically working for hours a day, every day for days straight before and after an event. This year, on Saturday alone we had over 30 people from Glenndale who came out for us, to help us make the Kokomo air show happen, who stood out in the mist/rain all day long, who walked flight lines, gave rides, took care of paperwork, marshaled airplanes, and ran every possible errand you could imagine, including emptying trash and keeping the grounds clean and safe for planes and people alike. For free, without any benefits or expectations. I'm sure they were as cold, wet and tired as we were, maybe more so for some of them who were out there late on Friday and worked for several days ahead of time too, but they didn't complain or hesitate at all. In fact, they were as into making it successful as we were; it was their show with our people. It only works because of them and their dedication. That's pretty special, and it's part of why we have a close crew. :)
I've got a few photos up from Friday and Saturday. I didn't take hardly any photos this whole time, which is just highly uncharacteristic of me! I guess I just wasn't in the mood, but there were certainly some times I wish I had my camera going. Tugging the T-6 back into the hangar with the clear skies and the bright moon, with Trey sitting on the wing hitching a ride, coming back to the brightly lit hangars with planes shining and music playing. Or Saturday, looking out at the crowd of people under colorful umbrellas everywhere. Sitting in the hangar with a Mustang, T-6, and fifteen good friends celebrating the successful completion of an event and a whole lot of work. Snapshots just in my mind, I guess. Fortunately, some other people did take pictures, and I know Trey took some too which I'll be seeing and posting soon!
The adventure this afternoon was going out to the airport to grab my camera, sunglasses, t-shirt and flight suit, all of which I'd left in the hangar when I left last night, picking up Dairy Queen and Steak and Shake for all of us, and coming back home to work on pictures, watch tv, and relax. It was a tough day. ;)
Oh, here's a photo Justin G. got of me coming down to race the dragster on Friday. I PhotoShopped out the buildings behind it so you could see the plane, car and flagman better, but I put the original on the photo pages too, for authenticity. I have photos of Ty in the Cub against the Model T too that I'll have to send him. I'm sure he'll get a kick out of that. :)
