Trips and Memory Lane

It was a good leisurely day. My only piece of business was to go down to Sheridan to go over and sign off a student for their last solo cross-country flight. It was blasted cold out, but at least there was no snow blowing, the sun was shining, and from inside some place warm anyway, it looked nice enough. ;) There were several "Glenndale guys" there along with a couple of Sheridan folks, so I hung out for awhile and "visited" while my student headed off. When I left there, I went into town and got my mail from yesterday and stopped at the store for some stuff before coming home and getting cozy for the evening.

I enjoy walking into the front room and seeing the twinkling Christmas tree glowing in the room. Last night I carried Kaylee sleeping out of her bed and onto the futon up front there and wrapped her up in blankets and let her sleep out there by the tree, with Christmas music playing on her Hello Kitty cd player. She sneaked into my bed early this morning, kissed me on the cheek, wrapped her arms around me, whispered "Thank you.", and fell back asleep against my back for about an hour. It was sweet, and I knew just what she meant. I still remember laying on our couch as a kid, wrapped in a blanket, staring at the giant colored lights on our 3' fake tree on an end table that still looked glamorous, listening to our Christmas records, until I fell fast asleep right there. It's a good, peaceful memory and I am happy to pass it on to my daughter, too. Her tree may be bigger and her music may be able to "repeat" without getting up and moving a needle, but the warm, cuddly feeling is exactly the same, and that's the important part. :)
