This morning my mind opened up at full speed some time after 6 a.m.; finally I gave up and got up before 7 and started getting ready. After dropping Kaylee off at school, Steve dropped me off at Kokomo so I could fly the Cherokee 180 back to its home at Sheridan, and Chuck picked me up at Sheridan in the Citabria and brought me back to Glenndale. Another of our round-robin trips. :) It was SO beautiful out. The air was so smooth that Chuck diverted from our home base and we wandered out west for a little while just enjoying the scenery, the changing trees, the blue skies, and the nice cool air.
Our Friday Airport lunch this week was a chicken and noodle dinner from Dale's church. They were doing a fundraiser, so we bought about 25 of the dinners total. Homemade chicken and noodles, along with mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, rolls with butter, white and chocolate cake and brownie. Yum.
It was time to pick up Kaylee, and I arrived a couple of minutes late because of going to pick up my car. When I got there, Kaylee said "I thought you'd be Daddy and I was going to yell at him for being late again!" So I told her it was his fault I was late anyway, and she rolled her eyes and said "that Daddy". He he ;)
I am officially fighting off some sneezing/sniffling/coughing thing, and the timing could not hardly be worse. So I'm taking my vitamins, drinking nice soothing warm tea with honey, snorting Zicam, and trying to get rest. I've got a packed-out day of T-6 flying scheduled for tomorrow starting bright and early. Hopefully this holds off...enough.
I was sitting here on my couch, innocently, when I felt a tickle on my neck. I thought it was a hair, so I brushed it and went back to logging into my computer. And then I felt something move in my hair. Assuming it was a fly or bug, I brushed it out, where it PLOPPED onto my laptop and stared at me, and it was about the size of a quarter. At first I thought it was a grasshopper, and then in some sort of horror I realized it looked like a spider. I made that half-strangled sound I do when I'm actually freaked out, and it ended up on the floor limping, and I have no idea what it is but it's UGLY. I dropped a paper towel on it and tried to squish it unsuccessfully. Kaylee came running out and asked me what was wrong, and I said "that thing was in my hair". She grabbed her book bag and handed it to me, and I battered the beast until the paper towel quit moving across the floor. It is still sitting there. Tonight I will claim Girl Privilege and let a big strong man take away the carcass for me. ;)
Speaking of, I have to give Steve some "props" here. Not just for removing the disgusting squished spider/grasshopper thing, but for all the help and support with this flying stuff. He will pick up Kaylee from school so I can take a trip. He'll stay out at the airport all weekend and take care of stuff so I can get this training in. Again. He's genuinely happy for me, excited when I am excited, he never doubts that I can do or accomplish something, and he has never, ever, not once been anything but behind me all the way--he's even provided a pep talk or two. The flying things that I get to do are made even more fun because I can come home and talk all about them with someone who "gets" it, and who is as excited about it as I am. That's pretty rare, and special...
