As soon as I dropped Kaylee off at school, I went to Sheridan for a flight. We had decent winds today of around 17-20 knots, right down the one runway, and a decent crosswind (50 degrees off) off the other runway, which was really good practice for the student. I left there and went right out to Kokomo where I met up with Steve and we did some multi-engine work. Engine outs both simulated in the pattern and a full feather engine stop up at altitude, steep turns, and stalls. On the power on stall, the power sneaked in a bit higher than it needed to be, and I was watching out the window and he pulled it up to stall. We slowly went about vertical, then he pulled back a little more, it was looking a little too interesting of an angle in a Baron for my tastes, so I said "Okee dokee, good enough, let's recover" Steve harassed me about wimping out on it for about an hour, before admitting he'd just looked out the side window and saw his angle and was just a half second behind me on getting out of that particular maneuver. Never can trust that guy. ;) We happened to end up just south of Glenndale on our way back to Kokomo to land for lunch, so Steve dropped down and checked the runway for them. So at lunch Nathan says "You know, I happened to be out at Glenndale today, and I saw what sure looked like one of my airplanes going by..." Well, it's been a long time since the runway was carefully checked, and I can say that Steve gets his sign-off for Baron Runway Checking Maneuvers. ;)
We left the airport and went to lunch at Applebees, then Steve and I went right back out to the airport for one last flight. Let's see. Vmc Demo, Drag Demo, engine failure on takeoff roll, simulated engine failure after takeoff, short field takeoff, and a crosswind landing off the other runway, around 60 degrees off gusting up to around 21 knots or so. That kind of good stuff.
One nice thing-in order to do the single engine Vmc demonstrations, we had to get above the cloud deck because it was too low to do below. So we found a hole and climbed up on top of the clouds, and after all the climbing stuff ended up around 10,000'. It was blue sky and bright sunshine with puffy white below. Quite pretty, really, and I got a little bit of light therapy on the otherwise gray day.
We got everything put away, and it was time for me to get Kaylee from school and relax briefly before she went to Cheer practice. The rest of the day was just as busy as the first. I dropped Kaylee off at Cheer, ran out to Glenndale, ran out to Kokomo, flew for an hour or so with someone doing crosswinds, went to Arby's to grab dinner, dropped back over at Cheer to pick up Kaylee, and came home for the end of day stuff.Steve is right now hitting the keys on that adding machine like a...machine. :) He's adding up logbook hours and getting everything in order in there, filling out paperwork, studying, just going over some things.
A rather busy, productive day I'd say!
