A list of random thoughts of the day.
For my records, which I desperately need to catch up on, I flew at Sheridan this morning for 1.6, then flew this afternoon for .8 out of Glenndale in the 739s. It was a pretty calm day, up into the high 80s as far as temps, and looking down that afternoon I saw my first (of the year) tree with fall colors starting to show on it. I do love the Fall colors and temps and feeling; I just wish it was followed by Spring. ;)
A friend at lunch the other day mentioned that teaching people to fly is kind of like teaching Driver's Ed, and it of course is in many regards. But one major difference that I was thinking about today is that pretty much everybody in America drives a car, but only a small percentage of Americans fly an airplane. There were about 14,000 women pilots in America out of 305,250,000 total people in I think 2007. Pointless from a statistical standpoint, but slightly interesting anyway. :)
Kaylee got two green jewels at Awanas tonight, which was only eclipsed in excitement for her by her team winning for the third week in a row at the games. She's loving that.
Kaylee along with two others are the only ones in their class who have so far not had to have any homework sent home this year, because they are getting it all done in class. She's loving that, too.
A lovely woman named MJ Purk has created an SMA calendar full of children's photos, with the proceeds for sales to be split between Marshall's Miles and SMA Support. If you'd like to support the fundraiser or could use a calendar full of cute kids, feel free to go here to buy one. :)
I, as a typical American, am simply annoyed at having the season premiere of Criminal Minds be preempted by another political speech. I should want to hear what they have to say, but frankly, I'd rather they put it in writing and let me check it out at my leisure. It's 9 p.m. and I'm not in the mood.
Have you ever been so afraid of something that you knew you had to do it or permanently lose a crucial piece of yourself? I wonder if examples are coming to your mind, or if you have no idea what I'm talking about. Sometimes I think the biggest expressions of bravery are not the big battles, the large events, but rather the quiet moments that nobody knows exist.
(No, I am not talking about myself right now.) ;)
This came to my inbox today under the title "Words to Live By":
"I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in a maze of mediocrity. I will not give up, shut up, let up, or slow up."
~Robert Moorehead
