Alley Oop

We have just had the most unbelievable weather around here for a long time now. It's beautiful. Calm winds, blue skies, perfect temperatures; I dread when that goes away, because it is perfect "work" weather. At least our line of work!

My morning flight was cancelled, and I went out to the office where we worked on finishing up counting the cash and checks and credit card slips from the BBQ Bash. I don't have any final numbers yet, but it's looking like we might have even topped last year! I know we gave 36 T-6 rides total, and I know that Sunday had 120 regular riders-not sure on Saturday yet. Anyway, hopefully by tonight I'll be able to say what the totals are, but it sure looks like it was a great weekend as a fundraising event as well as a fun one. Two birds with one stone! :)

Just before lunch I went up in the Decathlon with someone and we did aileron rolls. It was a nice smooth day for it, and we had a good time. Originally we were going to do spins, but I demonstrated a roll first which brought about a large grin and something along the lines of "Oh man, we gotta do that again", which led to me doing about two more, then him practicing them for the rest of an hour or so. His verdict was instant falling-in-love-with-and-hooked-on the rolls, and I found it a good way to spend time too. :)

After lunch, I felt like I got hit with the sleepy stick. I practically fell asleep back at the office, and after I picked Kaylee up at school, I about fell asleep in her ballet class too. The last half of the class, which is Tap, did manage to wake me up with the loud music and the loud metal tapping on the hard floor all out of rhythm. I tried to study the T-6 manual while I was sitting there. A little bird told me that the getting with it portion of flying the T-6 is coming up in the not-too-distant future, so I have some things to get stuck in my head.

Speaking of which, radial engines are unfamiliar to me in several ways. For one thing, this is a Pratt & Whitney R-1340-AN-1. Well, R for radial, air cooled, 9 cylinder, 600 hp, that I got, but what is AN-1? I also have to laugh, because every time I think about how much oil the system holds, I always say "quarts" first, because I've never before flown anything that measures its oil in gallons. 10.2 Gallons of oil. Good grief!

Okay, time to finish up the evening stuff. Laundry, kiddo stuff, school stuff, finish off BBQ stuff so I can catch up on SMA stuff, and I still have hundreds of photos to go through and get something up on line. I'm having a terrible time figuring out what to put up, with an overload of options. I haven't even gotten through them all yet to delete 'bad' ones or adjust color/contrast, and I worked on that until pretty late last night. I have hundreds to go. Not complaining, mind you, as I love having them! I'll let you know when some are up, naturally...
