Hazy Days of Birthdays

I woke up this morning to fog, and Kaylee was just fascinated by it. It had been awhile since she had seen fog, so to her, watching the world disappear and all her usual markers vanish on the way to school was quite intriguing. Of course this involved a full-blown discussion of what exactly fog was, how it worked, etc. Shortly after that, we passed a semi truck, and Kaylee said "Do you know why they have more than the four wheels the rest of us have?" I asked her why, and she said "Because they weigh too much and they are too big and if they only had four wheels, the wheels wouldn't be strong enough." I told her she was right, and then she said that they took longer to stop because they were so heavy. So we had a little talk about acceleration and momentum as well. All in a normal days' work at 8 a.m. while taking the girl to school. ;)

This afternoon I flew the Citabria for about an hour. After the fog burned off, naturally. My original plan was to work on a couple of specific things, but everywhere I went it was really busy with other pilots/planes and spectators sitting outside the buildings, and what I was going to do would be best done on a runway alone without everybody thinking you're crazy or about to crash. I tried one thing, but did it half-heartedly because Nathan was taxiing by in the T-6 right then and I looked, so it just ended up looking like a slightly flubbed landing/takeoff anyway. lol At that I just decided to do a few wheel landings, a few 3-point landings, and do 3 takeoffs and landings back at Glenndale just to keep current in that airplane. It's funny-I've always (well, almost always ;)) done perfectly good landings in the Citabria, but I notice a difference anyway since the T-6 (and Decathlon) flights on how it feels. It was a good exercise none-the-less, and other than that one half-landing half-exercise, I was pleased.

When I took off out of Glenndale, Dale and Jim were mowing. Dale was still mowing off to my right when I flew by, so I made sure to stay down at his eye level and wave at him as I went by. Pesky airplanes. ;)

Today is also the birthday for two special people. First is Miss Rania Cherry, our niece, who turned 11 years old today! I can't believe the youngest is eleven already. :O Secondly is our son Sidney, who would be 9 years old. Thank you to those of you who sent little notes to us today. As always, we really appreciate you remembering...
