Still Hopping

We woke up early this morning. Steve had a new flight student, and Kaylee and I were headed to Kokomo to meet up with Chuck & Judy to fly to a pancake and sausage fly-in breakfast at Frankfort. It was a little cold, a little rainy and quite windy, but the food was good and it's always fun to have a purpose to fly somewhere. We met up with Steve and his student in the air, and slowed down as far as possible so the 172 could kind of keep up with the Baron, and we flew over together. By the time we landed at Kokomo, the winds were gusting up to almost 30 knots, but fortunately for our passengers, it didn't get bumpy until we came in to land.

Kaylee and I were home for a few minutes, when I got a text that Nate and the kids were out at OKK, so we stopped at McDonald's for lunch and took it out to the hangar and hung out for the afternoon. Kaylee got to play, ride her bike and scooter, play hide and seek, and otherwise be a kid, and we just relaxed, looked over airplanes, you know, "hung". I actually fell asleep for awhile too, watching a video about the British RAF. I have been SO draggy today, it isn't funny, but about two hours after that nap I finally have perked up a little bit.

When we got home from the airport, Kaylee packed her bag, and around 7 tonight I drove her to a gas station to pick out the snacks she wanted for the night. She chose an odd assortment of cheddar sun chips, blue gummi sharks, lemonade, and a sour liquid candy. Oookay. ;) Next I took her to her gymnastics place, where she is spending the night tonight. This is only the second time she's ever slept anywhere without us being there, and the first time was this same 'event' last year. Basically they lock the doors to the gymnastics building after everyone arrives, and they have a giant slumber party for all the girls. There are probably over 80 girls there, and they have about 8 'adult' (or teen) helpers who each take charge of about 10 girls each. They divide into groups, play games, have fun, and they can stay awake as late as they want, though they shut the lights down in the gym sometime after midnight I believe. Kaylee was really looking forward to it, so I hope she has as much fun this year as she did last year. She wasn't nervous at all, either. In fact, she barely took the time to say goodbye before racing off to her adventure. :)

Late last night and today we had several notes for Devon's birthday. Those of you that read this, thank you for sending the notes on. Devon's cousin Morgan sent on a poem she wrote, which really touched us both. Richard & Ann took two stuffed bears to the local Emergency Room, to donate them to children who may come in who will be scared, in honor of Devon's birthday. The nurse said that was great, because there were two kids who were in there right now who really needed something to cuddle. Thank you, friends and family and friends who have become family for taking the time to send a little note letting us know you were thinking of us/Devon. It means a lot. :)

Well, now that Kaylee is off to her sleep-over, I do believe it may be time to relax for the evening. The house is clean, the child is off having fun, the spouse is relaxing with friends, I have a Snickers bar with Almonds with my name on it, and a lot of emails (and a logbook total) to work on...Oh. I'll leave you with this. You know I told you that when my new helmet came in, I had to wear it sitting on my couch watching TV for over an hour in order to make sure that the custom fit actually fit properly without any hot spots, without leaving sore spots or pressure points on my head? This is how that looks. Enjoy. ;)
