For the sobering, today was Lily's funeral. After these days is when I worry most about her mom. I have been talking to families who have lost their children for nine years now, and there are several things that they-we-all have in common. One of them is guilt. No matter what the mom (I can't speak for dads) do, if their child dies, the guilt is tremendous. They think they should have done this, shouldn't have done that, etc. The thing is, there are no guarantees. These kids have a disorder that is fatal more often than not in its more severe form, at some point. We can give the kids a chance at a good quality and quantity of life these days, but there are no guarantees. The parents are not responsible for their child's death, SMA is. But that is hard for people who are strong enough to fight this disorder for this many years to accept, and guilt is ever present, for not being "perfect"...a condition that last I checked isn't actually possible for us humans. Again, any prayers for Amy and her parents would be greatly appreciated as they begin navigating their way through their lives without their Lily Bee in them.
As for the clean part of the message, well, that's what I've been doing a lot of today. I've cleaned up my house because the cleaning ladies are coming tomorrow. ;) Sounds counter-intuitive perhaps, but it has to be this way. They are going to go from baseboards to air vents and fan blades to dusting knick-knacks, all of which I am going to let them do gleefully. I just picked up, straightened up, cleaned up anything too messy for strangers to deal with, and I'll let them do all the heavy lifting. I look forward to coming home tomorrow to a clean and fresh home!
I spent most of the work day out at the office, and ran another particularly large batch of errands. Michaele told me that today McDonald's was having free chicken sandwiches if you bought $1 drink, up through 4 pm, so after I picked up Kaylee from school, I drove through McD's and indeed got three drinks and three of their chicken sandwiches for us all, for $3. Not. Bad.
It was another wash-out day for flying. More rain, low clouds, and the runway at Glenndale is still a big puddle. That's going to catch up to us as people who were supposed to fly all reschedule for a later date all at once.
I got my logbook all caught up last night! I hadn't entered flights into my logbook since November of 2007. That is a *lot* of flights to enter. I'd been keeping track online, so these last couple of weeks I've been entering them, finally finishing up last night. I still need to add up my hours, something I'll probably do tonight, but at least it is ready to go so I won't get impossibly behind during this upcoming busy flight Spring/Summer season. I'm ready.
