Winding Down

Well, Friday is winding down successfully. Steve is out flying and I'm sure having fun since the winds are upwards of 30 knots (that's a lot). Tomorrow morning we fly a group of high schoolers and give a little aviation talk, and tomorrow afternoon Kaylee has cheerleader try-outs. Girls from I think 4 years old on up through high school are "trying out" for positions on the various cheer teams they have there. We will be there approximately two hours. I hope she does her best and is happy with where she ends up.

Kaylee and I had a dinner stand-off tonight. I gave her a choice between two healthy meals and she wanted cereal. (She's lucky that I hadn't just made one and put it in front of her-she actually had a choice this time!) I said she got to pick one of the two other meals, and that she wouldn't be eating anything else until she ate one of these two. She said "then I won't eat anything." See, she hasn't learned the Cardinal Rule of Stubbornness yet, which goes something like this: You can't draw your line in the sand on something in which, even if you win, you will lose. Since I can put that same meal in front of her all weekend long until she eats it, and since she won't starve to death over the weekend in the meantime, even if she "wins" for the rest of the night, she is miserably hungry. Me? I had my dinner, I'm quite content thank you. These are the things I am good at teaching my daughter, since I am so familiar with it... The Cardinal Rules of Stubbornness. Or as Kenny Rogers put it, you gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away... ;) And yes, since some of you will be wondering, she held out for two hours, and then she picked one and started eating it. ;)

Obama is in Kokomo today. Apparently he tried to play basketball and isn't any better at basketball than he was at bowling in Pennsylvania, where he got a score of 38, which is even worse than *I* do. Good thing he's not campaigning on a platform of sports. lol I don't know the last time a presidential candidate came to Kokomo...

I was saddened to hear that a pregnant woman who was shot-in the stomach-during a bank hold-up lost her twin daughters today. They'd been hanging on for the last couple of days and supposedly were fine, not hit by the bullet. Mom is in critical but stable condition too, but early this morning the twin girls died, hours apart. The woman was only 5 months along, so the bank robber who deliberately fired into her uterus can't be charged with manslaughter or murder because the babies weren't 'viable' on their own yet and thus not classified as 'human'. I know, it's amazing how sometime between 5 and 7 months those things in there change from apparently plant/animal/mineral/rock into human just like magic. Not human, not human, not human, okay NOW human. *sigh* One woman came on tv and said "It's such a gray area, they wouldn't have lived if they had been born now anyway." Well they wouldn't have been 'born now', and would have lived hopefully long and prosperous lives together, if they hadn't been SHOT AT at 5 months. *double sigh*

Well, anyway, time to get Kaylee ready for bed and ready for tomorrow and start winding down a little. Hope you all have a good weekend. :)
