Kaylee is catching up to me in a few areas and she is only seven. This isn't good. For one thing, she is very fast. I used to be very fast too-I could outrun most anybody, male or female. I can still beat her, but she is gaining on me. For another thing, she is very strong. I used to be very strong too. Now I am twice as big as I was and half as strong. How does that work exactly?! (Don't answer that). Again, I can still beat her (well, not literally...usually), but she's getting to be quite strong and one of these days it will be "Kaylee, can you open this for me?" instead of the other way around. Kaylee is quite quick with the comebacks. I...well, I'm intermittently quick on the comebacks. In fact, I was more the kid who thought about all the great stuff to say hours after the conversation was over. That always did drive me nuts. For now I can still take her, but that's not saying much considering it's close every once in awhile and she's, uh, seven. She obviously got this gene from Steve, and any improvement I have had in this area has been out of sheer self-defense from the rest of my family. ;) But last night she did beat me in something, three times in a row. We did a crab-walking race. You know, on your hands and feet facing the ceiling, rear off the ground, scuttling across the floor frontwards, backwards and sideways. She creamed me frontwards and sideways, and it was neck and neck for awhile backwards until she pulled ahead. She wins, hops right up and dances around. I lose, try to hop up, and end up having to crawl to my knees before I can get the rest of the way up, my arms feeling like noodles for a minute or two. No there were no cameras present at the time, so you'll have to be stuck with the mental image. Speed and agility and strength advantage goes to the 7-year-old when one is performing odd crab-like maneuvers across the floor, and another chip breaks off of my "I'm bigger, stronger, faster, and smarter" block. ;) *Laura runs off to do some push ups or something*
Oprah is having a pregnant man on her show today. I was horrified enough by that when I saw the promo last night, but today I found out that the man used to be a woman, had an operation to change that but kept her uterus, married a woman, and now they want to have kids but "his" wife had a hysterectomy so "he" is carrying the baby instead. There is footage of this manly looking man with a baby belly. Oprah, Oprah, what are you doing? This isn't ground-breaking science, this belongs more on Jerry Springer. And on a less mature note, forgive me for adding in a quick "eeeew" and a shudder.
This was a blog post I enjoyed today. I love the colors in the photos, I love that the family isn't embarrassed to put on the internet that they let four small children play with fire in an appropriate setting, and, well, I just kind of like the fire too. I do believe I'd sign up to help out on that there burnin' time. I call dibs on the flamethrower!
