'Show Me' A Flood

Hello from Flooded Missouri! The airport is close to a river, but you can't see the river because of the amount of water everywhere. It's a mess down here, with more to come. Fortunately not this weekend, though. :)

I feel like the weather channel sometimes because I often talk about what kind of day it was. But in our line of work, the weather is a rather important part of what we do. Today was just gorgeous. I started off the day with a call from someone who needed a ride to Muncie. Steve called Chuck for me and set that flight up, so I could stay home and pack and get stuff ready for our trip. I ran a few errands, packed, got the house and cat stuff ready, and then met Nathan, Chuck and Steve C. for lunch up by the airport. Kaylee got out of school early today, so after lunch I picked her up, ran her out for a couple more errands, then came home to finish packing. As we were getting close to leaving, I got another phone call-someone needed picked up at Fort Wayne. So another call to Chuck, and he and I flew up there together to pick these guys up and bring them back to Kokomo. We get back home, fill up the Baron with gas again, and hang out for a little while at the terminal while I wait for Steve and Kaylee to arrive so we can head to Missouri.

It was a beautiful day for flying. We had a lovely flight to Missouri. I plugged in my iPod and we listened to tunes all the way down. I even learned something new, although I do have a vague recollection of having known that at one time in the past and had forgotten. The iPod tunes kept cutting out every time somebody spoke on the radio or in the plane. I knew it didn't used to do that, and it was driving me bonkers. But there's a super duper secret handy trick to select in order to let it run continuously, which Steve found. No more Tune Interruptus. :)

Memphis Center always drops me on top of Cape Girardeau airport at way too high of an altitude. Today was worse than usual, as I was only a few miles out and still at 6,000' up when the tower cleared me for a straight-in final for the runway right in front of me. So I dropped all the drag I could and made it down...unfortunately as I was on short final, I am startled by shrieking in the back seat. I'd come down so fast that Kaylee's ears couldn't equalize, and she was screaming in pain. (No, that wasn't distracting at all.) So after all that, I had to abort the landing, climb back up to altitude to equalize her ears, then come back down at a slower descent rate. That worked, tragedy averted, and we arrived safely.

Once we arrived here, we headed to Red Lobster, after which it's time to kick back and relax. Sorry this is choppy, I'm listening to a couple of conversations while I'm typing. ;) Anyway, that's the basic gist of it. I'm in Missouri, it is badly flooded, it was a nice flight, and we're all doing just fine!
