I woke up this morning and got fully ready before taking Kaylee to school, because I needed to go into the school this morning, and I didn't think my morning hair and no make-up face would be a nice sight for all those innocent children and the substitute teacher they had today.
When Kaylee saw her Hawaiian decorations, she got the sweetest smile and gave me a wordless
hug. Wordless is a rarity around here, so I could tell she really was pleased. :) She also really liked her goody bags, and this morning I put them all in a box and we headed into her classroom, with her carrying the box. When we walked in, it was five minutes prior to the bell ringing, but all the kids were sitting at their little desks, not saying a word. When Kaylee walked in with her box, one little girl whispered "It's Kaylee's birthday! Happy Birthday Kaylee Stants!" And all the other kids Whispered one at a time "Happy Birthday Kaylee!" Have you ever seen that Scott Tissue commercial where all the executives whisper into the phone and whisper-shout "Surprise!" at a party because their product is so "soft"? That's *exactly* what it reminded me of, which made me kind of get a probably weird-looking grin on my face, but I can't help it. (Does anybody else think it's kind of weird that a room full of first graders are sitting perfectly still and not talking other than a quick whisper when the school bell hasn't rung yet? Anyway, I digress...)When I left her there, she was sitting quietly at her desk working on a math paper that was waiting for them all, and she peeked up at me and gave me a little happy smile and wave, and that started my day off just right.
Kaylee's teacher was gone today and there was a substitute teacher in for today. Kaylee had come home and told me that her teacher had told her not to hug the substitute because she was pregnant. Knowing Kaylee as I do, when she told me that I responded with "You can squeeze pretty hard sometimes, so you'd need to be extra gentle if she did hug you or anything." This morning when I went in, a room mom was there, and she also brought up the sub being pregnant, and said that she is popping into the room throughout the day to make sure the kids are being good so as to not stress her, and that the sub is worried about falling. I mentioned Kaylee's directive not to hug her, and the mom says "Kaylee can bowl a person over easily when she takes them by surprise, and we don't want the sub to fall over." No problem, Kaylee does sometimes sneak attack hugs, and that's not always the best plan as she gets bigger. Then I met the pregnant sub, whom I assume by now must be ready to give birth at any moment, but who in actuality is barely showing, and I thought "Ooookay." Must be her first baby. :) She wouldn't make it in Angie's (or anybody else's that I know, actually!) world--raising and homeschooling 7 other kids and handling farm chores while 5 months pregnant, let alone 9 months, and she apparently doesn't have other kids or she'd know hugs help the baby to grow! ;)
Then began my rounds, and boy was I busy, non-stop, for hours this morning. I even pre-planned my route so I wouldn't end up having to go back to a different side of town later. I did the usual post office and bank, then I went to the party store to return some things that I didn't end up needing. It was about $25 worth of stuff I was taking back...they gave me back $19. There's a 10% restocking fee for returns. My eyebrow up and "If you'd like, I can turn around and walk it right back to the shelf and restock it for you." didn't work. That's just dumb, it's a tiny store and I could almost reach the shelf the stuff was on from the front register. 10% restocking fee, puh-leeze. Also, they wouldn't take back bracelets, even though they were still unopened and with the price tag on them, because they didn't come in a sealed package originally. I made another comment about that being silly, and got the standard "I don't make the rules, I just have to follow them" back. So, I ate about $6 on the deal, but oh well. Other than being annoyed at their "rules", enough to probably write the owner a letter and say so, I at least accomplished the returns that I did. From there I headed to Glenndale where I left a thank you gift for someone and some gallons of water for the coffee drinkers. Then it was on to the insurance company for an errand, then on to Kroger where I ordered a Hawaiian cake for this afternoon (yes I know I should have done that yesterday, thank you.) While I was at Kroger, I had an idea, and I picked up 48 cupcakes done in a Hawaiian theme, and decided to take some of them to Kaylee's school for a birthday treat beyond the goody bags. She can't have a party, but this is close enough...it'll be special attention for her in class with her friends happy to get junk food and goody bags. ;) But on my way to the school, I was passing the mall, and there was one thing in there I needed, so I pulled in and went to a store where I picked up birthday balloons and a couple of novelty items for tonight. I've now been driving around for over 2 hours, but I'm almost done. I went to Kaylee's school and took in the cupcakes, walked to the kitchen and got a pan and put a dozen of them on there for the teacher and the kids, and basically did it as if I assumed they would let me, and didn't give anyone a chance to say "no", ;) paid a bill at the school, and finally got in my car to grab lunch at Subway and go home and unpack my car. By now it's been about 3 hours total, and I'm a little tired and it's not even noon yet!
I still have to wrap Kaylee's presents, and I need to go pick up her cake. I also need to return two things at Meijer, but man, I think that'll wait maybe another day. *pant* Unfortunately, today Kaylee also has to do a project for school that's due tomorrow (we DID work on it yesterday, and we were gone for the days prior to that), she'll have to do her normal homework which will include spelling words and math, and she'll have to study for Awanas tonight and go do that until it would normally be her bedtime. Somewhere in there she gets to have a little house party with cake and presents...
I'm writing this at noon, but if there's anything else to say at the end of the day, I'll make it a separate post since this is quite epic enough on its own merit. ;)
(Funnily enough, these were the quotes that came into my inbox just now.)
