Birthday Bash

Okay, today was a good day. Kaylee had a fantastic birthday, and she was SO excited. Tonight she said this was the "best birthday ever".

When she hopped in the car after school, one of the first things she said was "Thank Goodness for a Substitute!" in a very happy voice. I said "Why's that?" She replied with "Because the substitute had everybody sing the "Happy Birthday" song to me, and Mrs. D doesn't ever do that for kids' birthdays. AND we got to have the cupcakes, AND we got to open and play with my gift bags, AND I got to hand them out to everybody and hand out the cupcakes too! For the other birthdays, we don't get to sing or do anything special. I'm so glad we had a substitute today!"

This is the first day out of the whole year that there has been a substitute teacher in the class and it happened to be on Kaylee's birthday...

Kaylee also said the kids at school kept singing to her off and on all day long, even at recess. I asked her if she got in trouble for talking today, and she said "No way, I wasn't going to do that on my birthday!" I did point out that if she could control it today, she could control it every day, and she just flashed me a little grin and didn't argue.

When we left school, I told her she could have the after-school treat of her choice, and she chose Dairy Queen. Then we had to work the rest of the afternoon. We had to read a book, finish four "activities" and a math page and a journal entry. She got all that done in time to take a quick bath before dressing up in her Hula Outfit and heading to Awanas.

I walked in with 35 cupcakes and asked the leaders if they would let her pass out cupcakes for her birthday, and they said sure. So at Awanas, the whole group sang Happy Birthday to her again, and the kids were happy to have junk food cupcakes late at night-I'm sure their parents will be too. ;)

Kaylee came out of there pretty excited, and talked non-stop all the way home. I told her she could have whatever she wanted for dinner from wherever she wanted it, and she chose, big shock here, Macaroni and Cheese. ;) So I made up a big ole pot of it and put it on our Hawaiian plates and we all ate it for dinner tonight. Dessert was a Lilo and Stitch Hawaiian birthday cake, with more birthday singing and wishes, and then it was presents time. She had a blast opening all her presents, and by then it was almost 10 pm, which is two hours past her bed time! She had a fun, "awesome" birthday, and that makes all my running around the last two days quite worthwhile. You only turn seven once, and hopefully hers was good and memorable. :)

You can see some of the photos I took today too. I didn't get pictures of the cupcakes unfortunately-they were perfect, with Hawaiian symbols and colors. She loved the tall "palm" tree hanging from the ceiling as the best decoration, and wants to keep it up and her flower curtains up for as long as I'll let her.

And that ought to be plenty of talking from me in one day. ;) Happy Birthday to Miss Kaylee, a blessed girl with even more blessed parents!
