Family Fun

Unfortunately both Kaylee and I woke up with a bit of a cough, stuffy head, sore throat thing. (I'll skip to the end of the story and say that we're both doing quite well now). I actually slept in later than I have for...a long time. Embarrassingly late, actually. But I felt better after that. Steve and Kaylee got up, and Kaylee made pancakes all by herself. She knew the ingredients, Steve told her how much, she measured, she mixed, she poured, she cooked. Steve flipped them over, but that's it, she did the rest. She was pretty proud of that, and she even gave the kitties some left over cooked pancake drippings, which they actually ate. Steve made bacon and eggs to go along with it, and they had a huge old breakfast together. :)

I can't eat breakfast, so I waited for lunch time and had myself a "Messy Cheese Sandwich". Something from when I was a kid. You take bread, toast it lightly, butter it lightly, then put on pre-cooked bacon, and a slice of your favorite cheese. Microwave it (now that we have microwaves-before it was 'stick it in the oven') just long enough to melt the cheese, and consume. They may be artery clogging, but I'll tell you what, they're GOOD.

Kaylee earned $3 today in a most unusual way. She came inside yesterday and said "Mommy! There's a dead squirrel in my play house, and it's all gross and bony and cats have been eating on it and there's red stuff everywhere!" Only she didn't look grossed out, she looked like she thought it was pretty cool. So today, Steve says "I really ought to get that squirrel out of there today. Hey Kaylee, I'll give you $1 if you'll scrape up that squirrel with the shovel and put it in a trash bag for me." She says "No way!" We laugh and get ready to say something and she comes up with "But I'll do it for $3." We both said "Really!?" She was in. She, in her pink ballet skirt and pink and white striped shirt with the ballet slippers on the front of it, slipped on her shiny black dress flats, and marched outside, picked up the shovel, scooped up the decaying and chewed on dead squirrel carcass, and without a single hesitation dumped it into the bag Steve held for her. Steve didn't have any ones, just a $5, so they made a deal where she'd give him a big long back rub for the other $2. She made out pretty well, I'd say...

Kaylee also set up a deck party. I think the genetic component of being a good Hostess skipped me and went straight to her. She brought out drinks, snacks, even bringing out what she knows each of us likes individually. She had Steve light the lanterns, and she brought out dip to match the chips. She brought out Steve's favorite beverage, and mine, and then said "Here are extras in case you need a refill." What a little hostess! It seems to come naturally to her, whereas I had to be taught. She's a good girl, I'm proud of her. :)

As for me, I read another novel and finished off my day with a giant, super hot Bubble Bath by candle light. Ahhhhhh. :)
