Post Script for the Day

I got an email from a "new" SMA mom today who was pretty upset, scared, etc. about her daughter's health and condition. I answered her, and sent her on to the chat group and asked if some of them could talk to her as well. This is the email I got back from her just a few hours later:

"Laura, I am writing you back with tears streaming down my face and chill bumps on my arms. I can not believe the response from your group of parents. I have cried reading each and every one of their e-mails and have already gotten strength and ideas from each of them. I am going to print them out, keep them and use some of the ideas to present to my doctors. I just can't thank you enough for such a quick response when I was feeling so down and ALONE. I look forward to sharing with these parents and gaining strength from their heroic strength and love they have for their kids. THANK YOU!!"

And that's (in part) what it's all about. It makes a lot worth while just to have one person be able to know they aren't alone, that there IS information, support and help out there. Her email made me smile...as did a card I just got from a dear friend who just might read this if she's not swamped with other things. Thank you, too...

On a more humorous note, this evening after I dropped Kaylee off at Awanas, I went out to Glenndale and did a "Discovery Flight" or "Intro Ride" in a C-172. We went over by Grissom Air Base, and followed a KC-135 down the runway (at a reasonable distance, naturally). The view was still quite nice. The gentleman I flew with is the friend of a student pilot of ours, and it was this guy's very first time in any kind of airplane, ever. He was absolutely amazed, stunned, speechless. He loved it and was nervous at the same time. When I turned to land, he was almost literally crawling in my lap, and when I landed, he about ended up in the back seat with his friend, who was laughing uproariously. But all in good fun, of course. And then a "first" happened. I got my first hug ever from a discovery flight. I'm guessing he was just grateful to still be alive after being forced to fly in a small airplane with some crazy chick he didn't know. :)

That reminds me, before I forget. When we took the Bellanca to Kentucky Lake Saturday, we pulled up to the plane, and Kaylee said "Oh how CUTE! Look at the Tiny Little Plane! It's so Cute!" *snort*
