Life-ing

Didn't sleep great last night, but didn't have anything I had to do this morning either, so that was okay. First on the flying list was going out to Kokomo at 1:30 pm and taking John and Morgan in the Aerostar over to Shelbyville to pick up his Bonanza. She flew the Aerostar home and John and I got in his Bo. We got ready to take off and the oil pressure dropped to zero. The temps and such were fine so it had to be an indicator, but still. So we turned around and let the mechanic mess with it. Eventually it seemed to be working properly, so he flew us home. We all got to fly. Me in the Aerostar to GEZ, Morgan in Gumby back to OKK, John back to OKK in the Bo.

We worked at the airport for awhile, and then Steve, Morgan and I went to Foxes Trail. After dinner she and I went to a place called Bert & John's. There are only like 6 people in there...and one of them was her dad's high school best friend. It's a small world man, you'd better behave yourself is all I can say! We stayed there till about 9 pm and talked about upcoming changes and what they'll mean.

She starts her new job 8/17. She doesn't want to. Steve told Ethan about her taking the job, and he seemed okay with not having a backup pilot for now. She goes to training for the King Air at the end of the month. The chief pilot guy keeps texting her and asking her to do things with him. Tonight's was he invited her to join him at an event where he's singing the Star Spangled Banner for something or other. She doesn't want to be his buddy. He asked if she wanted to meet away from the airport to go over a few things and she said no, the airport is fine. She's going to have a hard time of this. So am I. She's going to have to start tailwheel instructing for them too. It's going to be hard to stay involved with us and start a new job down there. And I lose a friend to do things with, take flights with, etc. a lot more often. Neither of us is happy about any of this.

Steve is doing a lot of work getting maintenance stuff organized and done, and so is Jon. The hangars are cleaning up nicely.  We're getting ready to lose all our summer help as the Minions go back to highschool or college. We'll lose an instructor and a lot of cleaning crew kids. Happens every Fall.

Someone wealthy from California reached out to Kevin right at the funeral time and said he wanted to buy the Aerostar and T-6. This was supposed to be slowed down. Tall James was sorting things out, taking his time, we had time. Until this fellow jumped a line and called and said he wanted to buy them. So now we're scrambling to try to see what we can do, if anything. We need the 172RG as it's a big part of our flight school, and losing the T-6 makes me nauseous. Losing the Aerostar is not great either. But altogether that's a lot of money. So we're trying to see what we can do if anything to hold on to whatever we can. But the rich guy from CA desperately wanted the Aerostar for sure. He tried to buy it from Nathan when he was still alive, Nathan said no, and he didn't wait until after the services to try to buy it after he was gone. We can't outbid the guy, either.

These are not good days.
