Party On

Today was the big Hangar Party Day. I went out after 4 pm and helped with the final touches on set up. Put water in, got appetizers and desserts organized, along with Kaylee and Steve's friend Sharon. Sharon went to high school with him, and they were good friends for years. Her birthday is March 9th, and he couldn't remember which of us was what day for years. Now he's got it down. Lol  Another young lady named Adeline was supposed to help, but she got sick. So Morgan, me, Kaylee and Sharon manned the tables, kept food organized, set out new stuff, took out empty stuff, etc. It also works to keep me at controlled socialization, which makes it easier to manage than a free-for-all. :)

Steve had over 100 people RSVP, I don't know if they all came or not, but there was a good turn-out, and I think everyone had a good time, and plenty to eat. We had spotlights around so people could see better, but the down side of that is that it doesn't make the lights on the planes as pretty or photo worthy. It's too bright to fully enjoy the lights, but if you make it darker the old people can't see their food, so... ;)

I didn't get any good photos of the plane lights because of that; I could go out today and take some now that everyone is gone, but I don't feel like it. I feel like resting. Steve'll start taking it down Monday, and I'll be gone on a trip. So...no good photos this year I guess, but so be it.

We had rib tips and chicken quarters, mac and cheese, potatoes, hawaiin rolls, cheese and crackers, veggie trays, fruit trays, meat and cheese trays, were supposed to have green beans but they didn't show up, and then everybody else brought desserts and a few other sides/appetizers. The deviled eggs went first and fast. The store bought cupcakes or cookies didn't hardly go at all. Two chocolate pies were gone in a flash. The mac & cheese was a hit. The funny thing is, neither Steve nor I ate much of anything. He didn't get anything really, though he could have but he chose to use all his words and talk to folks instead of eating and talking. And I stayed behind the tables and made sure things were going well, so I just got a few small things while nobody was looking.

There's this one person who has been around for a long time, whose company I do not enjoy. She feels very entitled to be there and do what she wants, even though she shouldn't. Neither she nor her parents contributed anything to this party, it was me and Steve. She was neither invited nor RSVPd that she was coming. And she never has anything good to say. She came to Kaylee's high school graduation party and complained that she wasn't allowed to drive up to the hangar, but that we sent out golf carts to bring people up there, and the wind messed up her hair. Last night she was asking Kaylee and Sharon what the meat was, made faces, asked how it was seasoned, sniffed when they said they had no idea. She gets down to me at the desserts, asks what things are made with, I say I have no idea, so she says "You need more plain cheesecake here". I didn't say a word to that, because the only thing I could think to say was "It's a pitch-in. I don't know what people will or won't bring, but if you want a plain cheesecake, you're more than welcome to bring one." I wish I'd have said it. I fell asleep daydreaming that I had said it, I wished I said it so badly. But I didn't, because like a normal person, I'm trying to be socially polite even when other people are not and feel like they don't need to be. I want to call her up and tell her that right now. But she wouldn't bring one, because she's a mooch. She's always been a taker, a "the government and everyone else owes me everything for free" while she doesn't hold any kind of job and has her "rich" parents take care of her and her truly messed up kid (shocking) for life. Meanwhile she thinks she's the smartest person in the room. This is my favorite kind of person, right? Steve's interaction with her involved her loudly interrupting him while he was speaking to someone else and asking if we have Sprite. We have signs over all the drinks spelling out exactly what we have, and Sprite wasn't on it. He says no. She asks if there's any next door in the hangar and he says no. She sniffs and leaves and drives like 30 min round trip to get to a place to buy Sprite for herself and bring it back to the hangar. She wasn't friendly, never smiled, just felt like she had a right to be there, have what she wanted without contributing anything, complain about everything, eat and leave. She was really the only party pooper I saw. Everyone else had a good time and enjoyed the bounty that was available!

Tonight we were supposed to go down to Nashville, to a nice dinner and a 100 piece Christmas cantata choir thing, and I was looking forward to it until this morning. I woke up tired, with another headache, sore muscles, and bad weather. Steve too was tired and wanted to do other things today. Ethan texted that the wife of the other guy going, Val, was wiped out from having company, and that he and his wife were still recuperating from spending 2 weeks in Hawaii (poor people), and with the night, iffy weather, problem with the screen in the plane in the dark, and everything else, that we weren't going to go. Both Steve and I just felt relief. Even though I'd like to have seen it, we wouldn't get home until 1:30 am or later, and I have a trip Monday morning, and I'm already tired. So now it's 3 pm and I'm not ready for this day to be 2/3rds over with! I also can't figure out why my leg muscles are sore. I didn't do anything...what, stand/walk around at the party for a few hours, sitting a fair amount too?? Weird. Anyway. Normally I'd rather do something than not do something, but today...today I'm glad to not do something. That gives me the ability to do something tomorrow in bad weather and feel more refreshed. ;)

I'm going to put up a lot of photos from last night, mostly for posterity. There are a couple of Kaylee and Sharon, Steve, Kevin and Nathan, the rest are of the crowd and the set up, and one of me and Morgan at Be Real.
