Got to Frankfort at 8:30 am, got all the headsets out of the 340 and into the seats in the Conquest, preflighted, got everything set up, made sure there wasn’t an EDCT, and then we headed out for Panama City. It was clear and blue and smooth and only 2 hours down, nice and easy.
I dropped them off there, topped off with gas because they’re CAA there, so cheap fuel, and then headed over to Marco. From there I had to file airways and an arrival because it was otherwise going to take me too far into the Gulf of America and international waters. But my first waypoint I was cleared to was “HEVVN”, or “Heaven”. But then the arrival they put me on had the waypoint “OBESE”. I thought that was rude. ;)
Marco was a cluster as usual. There were 8 airplanes in the pattern. I ended up having to go around the first time because an RV didn’t get off the runway very fast, but I eventually made it in.
Once I got to Marco, since I wasn’t getting a rental car this time, I took the Courtesy car over to the bar and grill and got some coconut shrimp and that good salad, and a tasty Rum Runner (alcohol) since it’ll be more than 8 hours before I fly again. Tasty. The server remembered me. Both he and the lady at the desk at Marco know me by name. It’s important to always behave oneself.
I got an Uber over to my hotel in Naples. The driver had a Tesla. My first time in one, actually. Had a lot of zip, would accelerate quite quickly, and had a nice display with cameras and such.
I put on a swimsuit and went down to the outdoor heated pool. I sat in a lounge chair for an hour and read a book (author John Sanford), and then I got in and swam for about an hour. Did laps, just swam around, stayed active in the water. It was so warm, it felt great. There were a bunch of kids in the pool while I was reading, and then they all got out and I had the pool mostly to myself, so that’s when I went in. Ignored all the people sitting around the pool in chairs probably staring at me. I don’t know anyone here, so…
When I got out, it was getting late. I ordered Uber Eats at the hotel, and just finished eating it. I was thinking about going walking, but I suddenly got sleepy, so I’ll probably just get a good night’s sleep and be ready for tomorrow.
Tomorrow’s plan is to fly home from Marco at noon, and then get out to Kokomo and test fly BOB for the first time since last August, 7, almost 8 months ago. Whew.
See? “Go direct to OBESE”
And that, that’s a whole lot of water down there.
