Puerto Rico Day II

I sent a text out to Erik Z. who owns an airline full of Pilatus’ who said we could hop on one of his planes from San Juan over to St. Bartholemew’s Island if there was space while we were here. I haven’t heard back from him yet, but either way it’s okay. If it works out, I think it’ll be cool to go over there, probably a once-in-a-lifetime thing. The famous St Barth’s runway. If it doesn’t work out, I won’t cry, I’m still in sunny Puerto Rico having a really nice multi-day vacation and getting paid for it. So… ;)

We crashed last night. I was so wiped out from the low sleep and the mid-stress, that we both fell asleep for a little while at 7 pm, then we tried to watch a TV show and only got through about 9:30 pm. I think I rolled over to go to sleep at 10 pm, which is NINE pm Kokomo time. I figured I’d wake up at 2 am raring to go. Nope. I woke up at 3 for a little while, had my expected headache, and slept until 9 am this time! That’s like 11 hours of sleep!! Unreal! Steve did too, and he’s usually up early. We were wiped out, man.

We went downstairs to a little restaurant for breakfast, and our poor waitress was having a day. Dropped some glass, had one set of customers furious at her for serving “raw chicken” (it wasn’t raw, it was dark meat, but they didn’t want to listen), she took our drink orders and didn’t come back for like 15 minutes and then had forgotten we made drink orders, when we got them mine was wrong and I got two of them instead of one. It was just that kind of morning. We were there a LONG time waiting for our food, a really long time. So was everyone else. But it was good.

Afterwards, we came upstairs, put on sunscreen, and went for a walk around to find stuff. Walked about 3 miles total, down on the beach, around the streets, around the hotel complex, just all over. Found a place you can lie in a hammock and drink an umbrella beverage while watching the ocean under palm trees. That’s pretty sweet.

Lunch time, I wasn’t hungry, and we’re doing a big dinner, so Steve and I stopped at the pool bar outside our hotel. We were there about 1.5 hrs too, just to get served two drinks and some fish tacos. We have determined perhaps all of these places operate on Island Time and you might as well not be in a hurry. ;) Tonight we’re eating at the steak place downstairs, where you have to dress up a little, so I was thinking it may not be as slow, but…I won’t count on it.

(Just got back from dinner, and it was really nice. We dressed up, the waiters were all in black suits and ties, and everything cost a small fortune, but we knew what we were getting into and chose to do one expensive meal. We had a crab dip appetizer, fresh made bread, I had a lobster tail and Steve had wagyu steak, something neither of us had tried before, so we gave it a shot tonight. It was excellent. Lobster mashed potatoes, asparagus and creme brulet/key lime pie. Waddled our way back up to our room where we’ll digest and relax with our balcony doors open for fresh air and beautiful temps.

Everything is so very blue here.

They were having a wedding on the far left of this photo. I hope her hair was held down, because it was windy out here.
