Bowling Green

I was glad to be able to sleep in again today, as it's about to get busy again.  I picked up lunch on my way out of town, drove to Frankfort, picked up the 340 and two guys, and flew them to Bowling Green, Kentucky. It was so nice out I didn't even file IFR. I just bombed down there in the severe clear, fairly low, without talking to anybody. It was nice. I haven't flown these guys since like April. You know, the guys I was supposed to be swamped flying with, like I said. ;)  Anyway, it was nice to go again today.

We were only there a couple hours. I got gas, managed the fuel load from E vs A, and sat in a chair in the sunshine while I answered a phone call and some emails.

There was a pilot lounge, but it was dark and dim and dreary in there, with like 3 guys sitting in the barca loungers in the dark with one yellow light on, and it was a beautiful day outside, so I could not handle that.  Like I said, I sat in the sun, and it was nice.

When I got home, then came the whirlwind.  Tomorrow is a little easier now because I don't have to leave until 8 am, instead of the original 6 am. So that makes life a lot better for me.  I still have to get up at 6 am, but that's better than getting up at 4 am and then having a day like that!  So up at 6, to the airport by 7:45, wheels up by 8, in Michigan by 9, drop off Amber, back in the air by 9:30, take Nick to Ohio. Get the oil changed on the 340 while Nick looks at a project. Nick gets back, plane gets done, I take him back to Frankfort. Get in the car and drive to Indianapolis, where I check in for my 6 pm airline flight to Albany, NY. Arrive in Philly at 8 pm, connect to a flight and get to Albany by 10 pm. Get to a hotel. Get up early, get a shuttle, get to Albany, get BOB ready, which will take an hour so I need to do all this very early, fly over to Schenectady, NY, and give rides all day.  Shut down when we're done, go to hotel, eat, go to bed, get up early, give rides all day, drive car back to Albany, take airline flight back to Indy late Friday night, get home VERY late Friday night, get up early Saturday morning to do T-6 rides all day at our Indy Exec Barnstormer's event.  And then sleep for a day. I was going to say "Crash" but that really feels negative and wrong to say after a bunch of flying stuff.  ;)

So I have to get ready for 3 legs of trips, pack, get ready for the airline flight, pick out my airline flight home, do laundry so I can pack, pay bills that are due before I leave, check NOTAMS for 4 airports, and weather, and all the things.  So that's what I'm working on here at 10 pm before I can go to bed early so I can get up early so I can begin the whirlwind.

I don't mind. It's better than not having interesting things to do.  I read a line in a book today that said "The walls closed in; the relentless sameness drowned me." I have felt that way before, I can feel that way too easily. That line really struck me. I like some stability and certainty in some areas, and I like some routines. But...I can't have relentless sameness. That's just an inciteful way to put it. I've always said I hate feeling "in a rut", but instead, I am not going to forget "relentless sameness drowning me".

Anyway.  Onward. To packing, and remembering sunscreen this time.  And to Schenectady, NY, which I'm gonna have to hear said out loud about a dozen times before I can figure out how to pronounce it, and which I'm gonna have to accept I will never, ever be able to spell it without looking it up first.

So this was the seat I hung out in, by the window, sun beaming in, pulled another chair over so I could kick my feet up, had a charger and a wall plug there so I was good to go.

Through this door was the pilot lounge. You can see somebody's iPad or something glowing in the dark to the left. How Depressing Is That back there in the dark hole of gloom?

This was the other corner, from a distance. Lots of windows, lots of light. Light is good. Plants need light and so do people. At least this people.
