I took Shelbe J with me. She's one of our new instructors. She's very smart, academia, does a good job. She's looking for her next job, so she's not a long-timer with us, which is why I haven't worked to get a lot of hours for her in trips and such, but she also does a good job, is a nice person, so when you have a lot of trips where someone can go, you throw some fun flight hours for others, too. Mostly I'm focusing on Morgan, who needs a lot of time to get on the insurance for the Conquest, the 340, and eventually maybe even the Cheyenne. And some day, the T-6 is a goal too. Cameron is in between. He says he isn't sure what he wants to do and he wants to be around for awhile, but he also would head off to an airline or corporate job when he gets enough hours soon here, so I'm kind of waiting to see if he's really sticking around or what. In the meantime, I bring him along now and then too. I need to get Jason C. finished checked out in the Conquest so I have a ready-to-go back up pilot in that, because Kevin is potentially setting up a gig where I take the Cheyenne twice a week on runs to Maine for double the fee I get for the normal corporate trips, which is pretty hard to pass up. Two days a week every week until April guaranteed, that would make a NICE winter income fill in. It's not a done deal yet, and I need to make sure that I don't screw up my three other clients with it, which is why I need a back up pilot. But some interesting things in the works.
Shelbe had never been in the flight levels before, so she had fun with that, talking on the radios which is a little different up there, hand flying the Conquest for the first time. I had three clients in the back so I did the first leg, all the flying, and then had her do the radios the last half of it. The second leg, I did the takeoff and climb out and then had her hand fly for awhile and I did the radios. I did the landing. The third leg, I did the take off, had her do the climb out and fly and do the radios at the same time, and then I talked her through the landing. She did pretty well, and she loved the experience. So that was fun. :)
Except it was snowy and crappy and icy and the ramp was a sheet of ice and it was grey and frigid and who likes THAT?
We got back to Frankfort at 6 pm, and we were supposed to be in Kokomo by 6:30 for a Flying Squirrels meeting for her, and an EAA meeting for us both. I left and got there like 10 minutes before she did, because I speed and she does not. :D The meeting went well, Spencer and Jon were there to answer questions about the T-6 and C-45 maintenance stuff, always good to see Spencer the Airline Pilot again. :) I talked to lots of people, socialized, and then wiped out and went home.
Busy but good. Better than sitting home and staring at the TV. Even the Wisconsin/Michigan part. ;) Because at least I got to see and do this, on top, in the sun.
