Kentucky

Steve and the airport folks have our hangar all decorated up for our annual Christmas party.  Last year I had Covid, and was super sick, and I had to miss our party.  I’d never missed it before.  This year I will be landing back at Kokomo at 6 pm, which is exactly when our party starts.  So I will make it this time, by George. I even brought festive earrings to wear and my nice black dress pants and boots to be a little more holiday-ish.  I’m ready for that.  The hangar looks great, I saw it today.  The girls were still working on decorating up the tables.  This year Tre isn’t doing it, so it’s not quite as fancy as previous years, but we do it more for the camaraderie than anything else, so it’ll be fine.

I went to the store and picked up some stuff for the party, went out to the airport and pulled the 340 out of John’s hangar where it is being stored so we could set up for the party, and topped it off for today’s flight.  Meanwhile, Michelle came and cleaned the deck, her first time out and doing that since she was hit by the B-29 at Glenndale. She seems to be doing pretty well, is in physical therapy for her shoulder, and still dealing with the after-effects of a concussion.   We cleaned off Roadie’s stuff, gave Michelle all the cat food and brushes and stuff that we had.  The deck is empty over there now, needs some chairs around the table or something.  We missed having Roadie’s little face staring in at us from the deck door waiting for us to feed her.  And we keep closing doors we don’t need to close now, or opening doors we don’t need to keep open now.  We don’t want any more pets, but we do miss her.

I’m here in Kentucky. The literal middle of nowhere. No Uber, Lyft, Courtesy Cars or Rental Cars available. So I got the phone number of a taxi service nearby and the lady shows up to pick us up, in a small car for the four of us plus a cooler and a bunch of baggage and food. It was a decrepit car, smoker car, grimy windows and trash in the trunk and just a mess. But it got us to the Super 8 Motel where I’m staying, at least.  ;) I have to text her tomorrow to get a ride back out to the airport when I have to check out of here.  Again, at least I have a ride.  But that ought to let you know that my food options here were Taco Bell, McDonald’s, Papa John’s, and a Wings place, basically. I don’t like wings. So pizza it is.  At least they DO have Door Dash here so I could get dinner.  Now I’m in this very green room, can’t really go anywhere, but…don’t need to I guess.  I’ll go to bed early and probably wake up early and hang out some more until time to head out to the airport, where I’ll spend all day until about 4 pm, and then go from there to Kokomo for our party.

Pics from today.  A beautiful clear day above the scud, sunset flight over, and my VERY green and brown room. ;)
