Toledo II

So, I’m still here in Toledo, today and tomorrow, then I go home tomorrow afternoon.

I didn’t sell a single ride today. The Beech was roped off and across the ramp, nobody could really get to it, I couldn’t talk to people out by it, until 2 pm or so. By then the majority of the crowds had left, and I couldn’t get anyone else to bite. I hung out a lot with four of the B-24/B-29 pilots, also Stearman and T-6 pilots. Got to know a couple of them a lot better, so that part was good.  It was hot and muggy, but not the worst we’ve seen at least.  The last two hours I stood by the plane, and I changed up how I do it. When people come up, I introduce myself.  “Hi, I’m Laura, I’m the pilot, and I’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.” They immediately say “Oh REALLY!”, but then I don’t get so annoyed later on.  It just never occurred to me to do that before, because usually you’re talking to someone, someone else comes up, you just transition and start answering questions, etc.  This way is better though. I was much more pleased with interactions overall.  I couldn’t get any of them to go flying, but I have a good feeling about tomorrow. We’re going to move the plane closer, and make sure it’s ready to go, and I had some nibbles from today that may come back tomorrow. That would be even better.

So even though it wasn’t a great day from the rides standpoint, I did increase my footprint on the tour and several of the people in it, making nice bonds there that I think will behoove me. But more importantly I like a couple of those guys, they’re good people and fun to hang out with, and excellent pilots.  All good stuff.

No photos from today, because nothing really happened today.  We’ll see how tomorrow goes.  I’m still looking forward to going home anyway though.
