Day Off?

Today was a day off. Since I can't be at Oshkosh, where other people are posting things of Mustangs and such arriving, the Dubuque guys are all in formation flying stuff, dawn patrols, all that good stuff, I was going to take the day to myself.  I slept in, took my time.  Lon & Cathy are in da house, so I went out to eat at Fritatta's for brunch, had some blueberry and Bavarian cream crepes and some bacon.  Went from there to the theater and watched "Sound of Freedom".  While I was there, I got texts by Kaylee, and the C-45 rides guy with a question, shut down my phone.  The movie...it is worth seeing. I've heard that some people don't like it or think it's some right wing conspiracy or something.  Sex trafficking isn't fake, child pornography and grooming and all that stuff is not a conspiracy.  The movie was sort of intense, and you could hear a pin drop all the way through it. Nobody moved, nobody whispered, nobody was on their phone.  It was dead quiet in there the whole time. After the movie ends, a clock comes up and says "2:30 to a message", and everyone sat there in silence for that 2.5 minutes of credits, and then watched the message, and then filed out, all in silence.  What I like--the movie couldn't get traction from the main players, so this "Angel Studios" took a chance and presold enough tickets to get it in theaters, and it has run from there, it is picking up steam, and it's a worthwhile thing to spend the money on to watch.  Fortunately they don't actually show any of the abuse.  They get the point across without getting gross and graphic. You get the full idea without having it drawn out in full color for you, thankfully.  Even so, watching the movie leaves you feeling angry, disgusted, sad, morose, with a little hope and justice of some sort thrown in.  One of the people in the movie is a guy who worked for a cartel, was put in prison, when he got out he went back to it, but he was with a hooker, and afterwards he found out she was 14 years old, and the sadness in her eyes was because of him and people like him, and instead of killing himself, he decided to make a difference.  So he buys these young kids who have been kidnapped and sold into sex slavery, and he sets them up in safe houses and gives them a second chance at life, without the traders knowing about it.  One at a time, trying to save the ones he can.  Watching the depictions of these huge, gross, grown men, towering over these tiny 4-9 year old boys and girls, calling them "chickens", just makes me feel rage.  Big strong fellows to go after tiny little children like that.  I hope there's a special place in hell for them.  And the women who work as groomers, who trick them and drag them into the life. How do you live with yourself?  How do any of them live with themselves?  The guy the movie was about, was homeland security, watching pedophiles rape children in the evidence folders, and writing up data on it, originally. He told his boss, this job tears you to pieces, and this is my one chance to try to put the pieces back together.  I can't imagine having that job, I can't imagine dealing with the aftermath.  They asked at the end of the movie to pass on the info, to be the voice, to do what you can to expose the sex traffic industry.  The darkness out there...

I was going to take the day, like I said, maybe go see Indiana Jones, too. But Kaylee came home and texted me and wanted me to come home, so I came home, and she napped, and I do have company here, so I stayed until Kaylee left to go back to work.

Speaking of work, the previously reported problem girl at Kaylee's job?  She was taken to the ER in a self-harm threat last night, they wouldn't admit her, so she came back. She then attacked the night staff. The sheriff was called, and she attacked him too, and ended up being restrained, and forced back to the ER, where she was transported to Ft. Wayne on a psych hold.  She wouldn't have been able to attack the night staff if she'd been kicked out for her first violent acts in the first place.  Your guess is as good as mine if she'll be back, but we can all hope not.  Her therapist, who fought to keep her there, but doesn't have to actually deal with her nor live with her, should be culpable for the attacks she made on other residents and staff who do live there.  Not cool, man.  I'm just glad she's not there now, for now.

While Kaylee was napping, I made the peach crepes, and they turned out quite good.  There's never enough filling to satisfy though.  Maybe need to make a double batch.  :D  I had a little pan that worked perfect for small crepes.  I had three perfect peaches. I made it with two, and the third I gave to Kaylee, because it was delicious, and she can't eat the crepes because they have flour/gluten in them. I have to go back to that "farmer's market" and get more of those though.  Not for crepes, or I'll get fatter, but just for fresh peaches to eat.

After Kaylee left, Lon & Cathy went out to Culvers for dinner, and I went out to watch the last Indiana Jones movie after all.  I really liked it, it left me feeling pretty nostalgic, too.  They did well with it. It had some favorite hits to remind you of previous movies, and you see Indy and Miriam as they are now, in their 70s, and it was...nice.  I did have to ignore the whole scene done with airplanes, because that was not great; I think if you're going to spend a couple hundred million dollars making a movie you can ask a private pilot about a couple things.  But...I still enjoyed the movie and it was a good one to end the day on.  Makes me smile and feel old at the same time.

Yesterday while I was giving rides, a guy came up to me who does nose art for WWII airplanes, and he'd previously drawn up some art for BOB and then lost contact with whomever he was dealing with.  So he wants to reconnect and show me the nose art he'd drawn up for our Twin Beech.  I'm standing there as the pilot in a flight suit as he's showing me these nose arts, and the thought runs through my head, is he uncomfortable at all with this?  Because 1) the Twin Beech didn't really have any official nose art. Trainers didn't.  2) Not all nose art had to be naked women. 3) I'm not offended by real nose art. But do I want to put fake nose art like this on a Twin Beech I'm flying to "honor, inspire, and educate" kids, families, etc?  I mean, I'm not a prude.  I'm more bothered by people who are prudes these days.  But...

It took me awhile to figure out why he was doing them all "Double Exposure" like that was the name of our airplane. He did it because of the two camera ports we have in the plane, the two glass panels on the bottom/floor of the plane, where it was used for observation.  And it was based in Hawaii, thus the hawaiin girls.  Cute idea in someone else's hands, but not for the Indiana CAF wing.  We just took a naked lady off the BT-13 that we acquired.  Doubt we're gonna put this on BOB. But I will pass it on to the unit and they can decide for themselves.

When I pulled into the garage tonight, there was a big gross spider hanging in the corner of the big door. I took the picture to send to Kaylee who just said "No" back to me.  I hate those things.  Seriously hate those things.  Nasty.

When I was out there with the Twin Beech yesterday, there's a guy who dresses up as a reenactor who comes out to a lot of these.  He's in a flight suit, boots, a leather jacket (with a naked lady with full boobs showing on his back), a pilot cap, the whole thing.  He likes me and he spends a lot of time standing around my airplanes wherever I am.  At the TBM reunion it was at the T-6.  Yesterday it was at the Beech.  He follows me on Facebook, and is odd, but not dangerous odd.  You know we girls can tell most of the time.  Anyway, he wants to talk, but I am trying to sell rides, talk about the airplane, interact with everyone else.  And he makes that difficult.  Even more so because just about everyone who comes up there will ask him questions about the airplane.  I'm standing there in the flight suit not looking like a WWII reenactor, and they always talk to him first. At least he doesn't try to answer them, like all the other guys who regularly get asked questions about my plane instead of me do.  He points at me and says "you'll have to ask the pilot!"  So I give him credit for that one.  But he took this photo of a guy climbing out of BOB.  This guy was nervous to go on a flight, but wanted to, but was nervous. I tried to talk him into it, but he hung back until another round of people went.  When we landed and they got out, I heard one guy walk up to him and say "She's a really good pilot!"  Now he doesn't know that, he just knows I got him up, around, and down without scaring him.  But that was enough for the other guy so he signed up and went ahead for the ride, and had a good time.  Again, I'm standing there in the flight suit by the plane, answering questions, and about 60% of the time someone would ask where the pilot was.  I'd say I was the pilot, wanting to wave my hands over the fricking hot flight suit.  One lady got in the plane to go for the ride, and when I climbed in and shut the door, she said "Are YOU the pilot?"  Never knowing how that's going to go, I said "Yes ma'am!" She opened her mouth for a few seconds while I waited, and then she slapped the seat in front of her and said "That. Is. Awesome.  I am so happy.  This is the absolute best."  So that was nice.  :D

Feels like there was something else I was going to talk about, but I've forgotten.  I need to go take my night vitamins and go to bed...tomorrow is a trip to pick up the family in Tennessee.  It's just two hours out of my day, four hours including the drive to Frankfort and back.  It's too bad a couple of those at odd days were the reason I couldn't go to Oshkosh, which is a little owie seeing everybody on social media doing the things.  But this is important for establishing a relationship with a company and a family and a job I need to do a lot of for awhile here, and I'll live.  A little sadder, but I'll live.  lol
