T-6ing

I got too tired to post the last couple of days!

Saturday Glenn came down and we did about 5 hours of T-6 flying. We hit about everything, got all but engine out and no flap landings done, along with him needing another stall series run.  We flew three times on Saturday, starting at like 9 am, and going until 6 or 7 pm, then picked up Kaylee and went out to eat in Wabash.  I was really wiped out after that day, didn't get home till like 9 pm.

Sunday morning I planned on sleeping in. Instead I woke up at 6 am.  Urgh.  I did the usual Sunday stuff while it rained most of the day, and didn't even take a shower.  Didn't get on the computer, didn't answer emails, didn't work at all. I relaxed and watched movies and did house stuff.

This morning I met up with a lady named Suzi from Florida to start her T-6 transition training. She's an airline pilot for Spirit, in the Airbus A320. She's teeny tiny, can't weigh 85 pounds soaking wet. I don't think her jeans would fit on my arms, and I'm not joking. I had to get extra cushions to put behind her because even with the seat all the way up and the pedals all the way forward, she couldn't reach the brakes properly.  I thought...oh boy.  She's moving slowly, she flies an Airbus that is all computerized and an RV which is super light weight. She can't hardly reach, and this is going to be a scary one.  I could not have been more wrong.  She's the second fastest picker-upper in that plane I've ever flown with.  I mean it, she taxied it great, she did a 3-point and a wheel landing out of the gate that I didn't even have to hardly talk through.  Later on she got a little less perfect as we kept working on things, but I told her once that she was making me feel bad about myself because she was picking it up so fast.  She's really good.  Light, quick control inputs, great feel for the plane.  It's annoying!  ;)  We flew for almost 4 hours today on two flights, went to multiple airports, found crosswinds from both directions, skinny runways, fat runways, all of it.  We haven't done the stall series, the partial and no flap landings, and the engine out landings.  Do that, and I'll sign her off, even if she only has 5 hours in.

As I put on Facebook, she also had the canopy open once, and her hair was sticking straight up, fanned out, in perfect form like mine usually does if I do that.  We laughed, she closed the canopy.  I have my hair in a pony tail under my helmet all day.  We get done flying, her hair looks perfect. Mine looks flat, gnarled, and messed up. Like I said, I looked like a balding forest dweller who slept under a log (in the rain).  I do not know how to do this girl thing. I stink at it!! I can be capable, but I cannot seem to be capable AND pretty at the same time.  lol

Last night we watched "Fast & Furious X".  We like stupid action movies, and that fits the bill. It stretched believability even more than the previous ones on a few things, and Jason Mamoa got weird in there, I think he was trying to be gender fluid or something.  But the worst thing of all?  They left it on a cliff hangar, like it's a TV series season finale and you have to wait until Fall to see how it concludes. Except this isn't a tv series, it's a movie, and now you have to wait however many years it takes them to come out with the next one?  I'm really annoyed by that. I want my movies wrapped up in a bow at the end of it.  Finish the story.  If I knew it was like that I'd do what I did when Stephen King came out with "The Green Mile" book one little booklet at a time every few months. I waited till he was done, then I went out and bought the boxed set all at once so I could sit and read it in one sitting.  I'd have waited for the second part of Fast X to come out before watching the first one. So annoying.

Tomorrow I was supposed to do more T-6 training, but the weather was tanking, so she went home today. Tomorrow afternoon I was supposed to go to Florida to pick up the Conquest II and fly it home. Instead, they ran into another maintenance issue, and I won't be going down until Friday or Saturday.  So tomorrow I may help with the Flying Squirrels, or I may do nothing but study the Conquest materials.  The weather didn't look great tomorrow last time I looked. This new airplane thing has dragged on and on, messing up schedules for everything and everyone for more than a month.  Nobody's fault, it just IS...

The back of Suzi's head

See. She's all pretty and put together and I look like a disaster.  But a happy smiling one. ;)

Nathan kept trying to call me while I was up flying, so I took this photo and sent it to him.  :D

Back of Glenn's head

Wabash, IN

This is how I guard the controls on takeoff and landing.  No lie. Left hand on the throttle instead of on my phone, however.  Except this time because he was doing fine on takeoffs by then. But even when they're doing fine, I'm usually right there on it.  ;)
