Peru

(Illinois, that is).

It's midnight my time, 11 pm here, so I'm kind of beat, but I hauled along my laptop so I could write, since my iPad is gone, so I ought to do that before I go to bed. ;)

I was tense about this weekend this whole day. It kind of stressed me out, actually. I was trying to figure out why I was so bothered, and then it hit me--I had so many things recently go wrong in airplanes lately (some I didn't post here), and they all ended up okay, either out of luck, or grace, or being fast enough, that I was half tensed up and worried about something else happening that maybe I WOULDN'T be as lucky, or fast enough for.  Like I was waiting for another shoe to drop or something.  I've felt that before a few times over the years, and there are only two answers: either stop flying, or keep going and work through it. (The book "Fate is the Hunter" really gets into that). The good news is, I recognized it early this time and had a chat with myself on the way to Peru, and then had two formation flights in the afternoon that were too busy for me to do anything but focus on those.  In front of a lot of people, and cameras none-the-less.  Now THAT'S something to stress out about.  ;)  The first flight I mostly felt like I was flailing around a little even though it seemed to go fine. The second flight, I felt the moments where it just dialed in and you settled down and just started feeling like...one...with the airplane. I didn't stay there the whole flight, but I felt it kick in a few times, and that's a cool, fun feeling.  Glued to the wing of the person in front of you, seeing glimpses of the airplanes, and the sunset, and thinking about how fortunate I am to get to do those things.

Tomorrow is an airshow, hopefully giving lots of rides, and hopefully BOB the Beech arriving too.  Busy day, so I should get to bed...
