The weather was gross today, so I stayed in and did paperwork. I finished my T-6 groundschool quiz, all 6 pages of it. Answered emails, and texts, cleaned up stuff. Then after lunch at the PO Box we found the paperwork I need from the dealer in order to get my plates for my new car, so I gathered my info together and drove over to the BMV. Not my favorite place to be, and it was packed out. I was number 323 and they were on 296. It moved fairly efficiently, and when my turn came I actually had all the paperwork I needed to complete the deal. I extended my plates into next year as these expired in October anyway. Might as well not have to go back for awhile. I did learn that my new car has more expensive insurance and plates than my old beaters. Another downside to new vs old. But I'm still enjoying driving it a lot. ;)
When I left the BMV, it was time to feed Ann, so I went through Culver's to pick up an Oreo "blizzard" and some chicken strips, which she enjoys, and the rest of us dinner too. Driving home I'm like...wow, the ceilings are up, the rain is gone, it's warm, it's actually really nice out here. So I got back in my car after taking care of Ann and eating my own dinner, and went out to the airport, pulled out the Citabria, and went for it.
I ended up doing 3 spins to the left, 3 to the right, then did about a dozen aileron rolls. I was trying to do a couple things. One, we're going to use the plane for spin training, and I was noticing that if people did what they usually do, and push the nose down too far on spin recovery, this thing was over-revving on RPM even with the power pulled back. So I was messing with the best way to teach it. Secondly, I was building my tolerance back up for G's, as I haven't done anything since Fall. So doing a bunch of spins and rolls was good. Although doing it right after you eat a full dinner is not always the best plan, but I was fine. lol I did feel it at the end, just the first twinge of "don't do this for another 45 minutes or else". ;) Third, I was trying to perfect the roll. This plane is slower, wallowy, and a different feel than the T-6. I ended up doing some takeoffs and landings. This has the big tundra tires, and it's a different feel too on the ground. Easy to touch down, not as easy to steer on the ground. Full rudder inputs and some brakes just to turn corners, and in the crosswind landing roll-out, it's hard to go straight. It takes almost full control inputs to land with a 15 knot direct crosswind (which I did tonight), as opposed to the Champ, where I can do about 25 knots direct crosswind and feel less sketchy than the 15 kts did tonight. I did three landings into the wind, then two crosswind landings, ended on another one into the wind to end the night. A decent workout the day before the weather tanks again.
Kaylee is working on her FAFSA Financial Aid form for her last year of school, for her Master's. Steve is working on taxes, and billing. All big things.
My new job with the Conquest II will probably be starting within two weeks. I may start by running them down to it next week, then training will be right after that, and then we already have trips in the works for after that. I'm ready to get going.
