Spring

I'm kind of grateful to be back in the Spring Swing of things. Busy days, nice weather, lots of flying. You get tired by the end of the season, but I'm tired of winter within two weeks flat, or less, and it lasts for months. I mean, it's mid-April and this is really our first actual nice week. Monday we get 37 knot winds, 36 degrees and rain/snow again.  In the last couple weeks of April!!  Boo!  So this week, I'm really enjoying everything.

This morning I had an 8 am dental appointment. I didn't make it for that, I made it for 11 am, and they moved days and times on me via phone call voice mail. Another 'boo'. I hate dentists, but in this case he fixed a chip in my front tooth. It has some bondo or something on it to smooth it out and look normal. He said it should hold as long as I don't chew anything hard with it. I joked about not chewing with my front teeth, and then he said "Like don't bite or chew on your nails with it either".  I'm like :o  Doh!  Crap!  I may be 51 years old and finally have one of my worst habits force broken on me, if that's even possible.

I had a flight in the RG doing Instrument approaches with someone who had been just off practicing on their own, and ended up not doing it right, so that means they get to un-learn things. That's why getting with an instructor first isn't a bad plan vs trying to teach yourself something...

After lunch I had a checkout flight in the BT-13. It felt good to get back in the plane even if I wasn't the one doing the flying. It was my first time flying with him, and we butt heads a little bit. Every feedback I had for him he had reasons or excuses, and that kind of flight gets old. I offer input on smoothing something out and I can tell he's dismissing it, with his 20 hours total tailwheel time.  Retired military aviator, airline pilot.  That ought to explain enough right there.  Man those boys get tiring. But I did enjoy being in the plane on a nice day and getting familiar with it myself again for the season.

Last but not least was someone else doing instrument approaches. She did great, we did the ILS 23 at Kokomo, then I called up Grissom and we did vectors to final for one, then a circle to land.  All good stuff.  I didn't leave the airport till after 6:30, and didn't get home till after 7.  I ordered in Taku Japanese food, put Ann to bed, with some difficulties, and had a nice dinner and a show.

Tomorrow is Purdue Aviation Day. They originally said be there before 8 am. So I sent an email and said I'd be there 7:30-7:40.  BT fellow sent me a text that they'd like me there before 7. I said that ain't happening, they're lucky I'm getting there when I am.  I'm not getting paid for this, I'm there to make their event better, and they can kiss my grits.  I said I will leave Kokomo at 7, which is earlier than I planned on, and that will get me there around 7:20 am if all goes well.  That's as early as I am getting up, which is still me getting up at 5:30 am!!  That's just stupid...

Anyway, good days with good things happening for the most part. I have more trips coming up soon, and some C-45 and T-6 training coming up to do.  Looking forward to it.
