Spring!

April 2nd finally felt a little like Spring. No 50 knot winds, no thunderstorms and tornados, no IFR and grey skies.  Today was supposed to be my day off, but really yesterday was my day off. Steve went to the airport and I had the house to myself most of the day, sat on the couch and watched movies and didn't do much of anything important. So today I wanted to go do something.

I decided to go out to Kokomo and take the Champ up for an hour, and called one of my students who hadn't been able to fly yesterday because of the weather to see if she wanted to fly today, and she did, so we went up in the RG and did all the Commercial maneuvers.  Ended that, and we went up in the Champ to get her tailwheel currency in so she could take the Champ up too, and then I ran home to get Ann's dinner and meds so Steve and Kenny could enjoy  hanging out outside by the fire in the back yard and chill.

My flight was my usual rust-knocking tailwheel flight. There was a 40-50° crosswind from either runway, around 12 knots, so I started off on one runway, did 3-wheel landings, then 2-wheel landings, then 1-wheel landings, then engine out landings, went to the other runway for crosswind from the other direction, slips to landing, once the rust is knocked off it's fun to just play.  And it's skill building anyway, for not much gas.  I like it. (Obviously).

I brought home Five Guys burgers for dinner, and we're watching some TV together.

Felt like a good day, I think I needed that.

The alert that came through on my phone while I was looking at the radar

The circle on the left of the screen is where the tornado was. See where it says IU Kokomo? We are just down the road from that.  We were pretty much in the path, but nothing happened.

Fired up and ready to go aviate

Shots coming in to land

Now I'd better pay attention to the landing which is coming up in 3, 2, 1...
