Friday evening Doug R. called me and said he'd be bringing the Corsair into Kokomo at 9 am for a quick stop fuel up. So I got up early Saturday morning, and went out to the FBO by 8:45 am. When he didn't show by 9:30, I figured he meant 9 am his time. I waited until 10:30, and then my 10:30 am student was ready to go, so I texted him that I had a student, but that the FBO knew he needed a quick turn fuel stop and were ready for him. He wrote back "Sorry, I broke. Battery." Would've been good to know, I could have slept in and not spent two hours waiting in the FBO, but...I've also had worse ways to spend a Saturday morning, so hey. From there I went up in the Champ with Isabel for her first tailwheel lesson. She started in Champs with the Squirrels, but hadn't flown a tailwheel in years since she started taking "real" lessons in the 172. So she felt like she was starting over, and she was in a way. We had a good time and a workout.
That evening, Steve and I drove down to Perkinsville, IN, to a place called "Bonge's Tavern". It's a small bar/restaurant in the middle of nowhere, by Anderson, IN, that you sure wouldn't drive past on accident because you'd have no reason to be out there. On a weekend you have to make your reservations about 3 weeks in advance or you won't get in. So we arrived at 5 pm or so for a 6:15 pm reservation, and we met up with friends Greg and his wife Mari, and we pulled out some camp chairs, and a cooler, and the guys pulled out a cigar, and we 'tailgated' for an hour or so. A lady came out with a tablet, took our names, and let us know 3 minutes ahead of when we'd be called for our table, so we could pack up the camping stuff. It was a nice breeze, and it was actually pretty relaxing out there sitting around in camp chairs and talking and having a drink. The place would kick small parties out of their tables by 90 minutes, and large groups get 2 hours. That way they can stay "on" reservation. So the food, the waiter, the check, everything comes, and we were almost exactly 90 minutes by the time it was said and done. I had a hard time deciding what to get. They had fillet, prime rib, walleye, trout, duck, chicken, pork, lamb. Your sides were predetermined as cheesy potatoes and broccolini, which is one long sprout of broccoli cooked with something like lemon and something else, it was good. Then you can get tomato soup or a wedge salad, and they make their own blue cheese, which was also really good. Desserts were sugar cream cake with blueberries and chocolate torte and chocolate sugar cream cake with cherry. The duck I would have tried except it seemed to be too much, with jalapeno cream cheese and bacon and BBQ. Everything there was really good so I assume it would be, but I don't like jalapenos and that's just...a lot. So I had Tuscan Chicken which was quite good. And I had dessert. And wine. And by the time I got home, I was so full it was almost 1 pm today before I could eat anything. lol
Kaylee is house sitting for her social work major head of department. They have two dogs, and Kaylee doesn't know how to deal with two large-ish dogs including a boxer and a bigger one. She's a little afraid and can't tell when they're playing or how to play with them. She didn't know that their growling and pulling on stuff is playing, or that they want to chase and run with her. So she's Facetiming us to ask us how to deal with the dogs and we're like... And she desperately wants a little dog she named "Gus Gus". I told her "I told you dogs were a lot of work". One of them got nervous and pooped in the house several times, they wanted to sleep with her and she didn't want that, they wanted to play all the time and she doesn't. I think it's great. Maybe that'll be the end of hearing about her getting a dog. :D
Ann went back to bed around 3:30 pm yesterday for some reason. Steve went over early to take care of her dinner and meds so we could head out for our dinner. She had her pj's on, her hearing aids out, shoes off, had locked up all the doors and windows, and was in bed. He's like "It's not even 4 pm mom!" She just got confused. When I went back over at 9 pm, she had everything wide open, hearing aids in, shoes on, etc. But she didn't fight me about going back to bed.
Kaylee's room now has the carpet ripped out and the thick carpet pad taken out and the nice subflooring all ready to go for the new 'wood' floor. He worked fast, he had things pretty far along in like 90 minutes. I think the next time he comes out he may get the actual floor laid and be good to go. The problem we had was we had to take everything out of her room, of course. The bed wouldn't come out without taking it all apart again. And some of the slats fell out and hit the wall, damaging the paint/wall where we just had it painted. Frustrating. And the front of our house definitely looks Full-on Hoarder right now. All of her college dorm stuff is all over up there. Fridge, cabinets, chairs, and then her whole room furniture, bed, and suitcases of clothes, and her closet stuff we had to take out to do the floor in there, and it's a DISASTER. I mean, it's organized for the most part, but still, what a mess. I hate clutter, so when she starts accumulating stuff back in our half of the house, I carry it right back up front. She got a little offended once and said something about how don't we want her to think of it as her house too, and I'm like, sure, and up there is where you can make it a mess and a disaster if you want to for right now. Back here...this is MY space, and I need it to not look like THAT. And so it is. I keep half the kitchen and the back half of the house straightened, and the front, well, the front pictures are below. ;)
Isabel in the Champ
After 90 minutes. Now it's completely cleared off, prepped and ready.
The Guest room that will not be hosting any guests right now.
The front living room with furniture, the flooring we got, Kayee's bed, etc.
You can see the other three tailgating off to the right. Everyone else was in the full lot on the other side of the fence there.
Good food, reasonable prices for what you get, and fun atmosphere. Worth it.
And a throw-back, me and my young lady rider at the TBM Avenger Gathering.
